Chenghai kept the SUV several meters behind the last row while the horde filled the road ahead of us. Every few minutes, a zombie wandered toward an open building or side street, only to return without finding anything.
The closer we got to downtown, the less there was to find.
Warehouses gave way to apartment buildings and stores with shattered windows. Doors hung open, overturned vehicles blocked parts of the road, and old blood stained the sidewalks.
Nothing living or dead remained.
Even the small signs of people trying to survive had disappeared. There were no barricades, abandoned camps, or bodies left behind by anyone who failed to escape.
