Chapter 9 - Reminiscence

Bitna woke up feeling more refreshed than she had in days, no longer needing to worry about her "meeting" with the president anymore gave her a profound sense of peace. Even if it was temporary. It was a Saturday, her father wouldn't be home. This was the only day she had to act like everything was normal. Wake up, take her bathe, assignments and lastly relaxing while listening to her playlist.

She had just brought out her bag ready to fight a battle with geometry when she realized that her book was not in her bag. A fat chance she left it at school since she couldn't even remember the exact page. She still searched for it though but gave up when her head collided with the cabinet. Laying on her bed, memories of her mother came to her. Those were her happiest memories, memories of times she wished to go back too. The main reason why she never gave up was because of her mother, her anchor even in death.

She would always think of her mom, how happy she was whenever her beloved daughter came home with the best result becoming the envy of the local mothers. Even till now she would always thrive to be the best in her studies cause her mother might be looking down at her. That's the only way she could make up for her... Deeds with the president. She didn't want to be a two way disappointment. It was hard, so hard.

Sometimes she would come home bruised cause the president somehow derived pleasure from her pain. Making small cuts down her back and thighs. She was thankful that he didn't hurt her during thier last time together. Maybe because she didn't fight him, even though they had done it lots of times before, she would still try to fight but it seems she had used up the little resistance she had left.

She closed her eyes, listening to her heartbeat. Trying to find that peace within her but it seems far away from her. Survival is such a bitch...
