None of them noticed that, standing at the end of the corridor near the elevators, a middle-aged woman wearing a hospital volunteer's uniform had quietly watched the entire exchange.
She had arrived just in time to hear one sentence.
"I want these sent to Genova Genetics immediately."
The woman's expression changed.
Without waiting another second, she turned and disappeared into the crowd, her hand already reaching into her pocket for her phone.
When the call connected, she spoke in a low, urgent voice.
"They're testing the boys."
A tense silence followed before she listened to the response on the other end.
"Yes," she whispered. "A DNA relationship test."
She lowered her eyes briefly.
"I think... after all these years..."
Her voice faltered.
