The base was alive with urgency, soldiers rushing in every direction, their footsteps pounding against the ground. Trucks and armored tanks lined the roads, ready for immediate deployment. The entire installation was on high alert, with troops preparing for yet another potential attack.
As Yuren walked through the sprawling grounds, the imposing buildings cast long shadows over him, their reinforced walls a constant reminder of the looming threat. The chaos around him was palpable. The distant roar of engines mixed with the sharp sounds of military boots on gravel, creating a cacophony that resonated in his ears.
He steeled himself as he made his way toward the command center, where critical decisions were made amid the turmoil. He felt a growing sense of urgency; he needed to discuss recent developments with the Vice Minister.
"Yuren, no. Dangerous," Eri warned, pulling at his sleeve, concern etching her features.
"It's fine, Eri. I have a responsibility to report to the Vice Minister. I can't just sit in my room and do nothing while this is happening," he replied, determination heavy in his voice.
"Fine," she muttered, though her worry was evident in her eyes.
"Don't worry. I promise I'll be careful," Yuren assured her, forcing a reassuring smile as he continued on his path, feeling the weight of duty pressing firmly upon his shoulders.
They entered the command center, where the place was busy, the sound of voices filled the room, and the Vice Minister was directing the military effort from the center. "Vice Minister."
"Commander Gotsutoa? Good." Amalia looked up, "I've already deployed your unit to the north. Please take a look at the following information, this is Meteorn we're dealing with."
"Understood." Yuren approached the holo-display and looked over the information.
"This creature, called Nidhogg, is like a dragon and can cause a lot of destruction. Its main attack is a strong shockwave beam of energy shot from its tail, which can destroy buildings. It can also fire energy spikes that go through solid materials and use its tail to grab things or hit opponents. Nidhogg has tough armor that can take powerful weapon blasts, and it can fly while attacking," she said as the hologram showed images of the creature.
Yuren recognized Nidhogg from the other day. The military called it Nidhogg, but he heard it referred to as Jytenreu.
"The tail has its own core. If it gets damaged, the tail can detach and keep fighting until it runs out of energy or is destroyed. However, it disappeared last night after getting injured, and we can't find it."
"Right." Yuren nodded.
"Ma'am! We're detecting an enormous resonance signature forming in the heart of the northern district!" One of the operators shouted, urgency lacing every word.
"What?!" Amalia exclaimed, her pulse quickening as she swiftly turned her attention to the large monitor that dominated the command center.
"Ma'am," another operator chimed in, urgency evident in their voice. "We're tracking a substantial build-up of energy in the northern district. The signature is..."
Before they could finish, a series of shrill alarms blared throughout the facility, and the stark red lights bathed the room in an ominous glow.
"Massive resonance signature detected. Resonance density at critical levels," the automated system intoned, its mechanical voice echoing in the tense atmosphere.
"Withdraw everyone from the northern district immediately!" Amalia commanded, her voice ringing with authority and concern.
"But ma'am..." one of the operators hesitated, glancing nervously at the chaos unfolding on the monitor.
"Now! Get them the hell out of there!" she insisted, her eyes fierce and determined.
"Ma'am, the signal-" the operator stammered, but Amalia cut them off.
Yuren, standing by the window, suddenly froze, his eyes widening in shock. "That's..." he whispered, pointing toward the sky.
The atmosphere outside was charged with an otherworldly energy, the sky above the northern district glowing a deep, unsettling red. Dark, swirling clouds crackled with crimson lightning, illuminating the horizon like a nightmarish spectacle. The air trembled with anticipation, and the ground shook beneath them, as if the very earth was in turmoil.
"The Apocalypse Class," the Vice Minister murmured, a note of dread in his voice as the reality of the situation sank in.
Then, with a thunderous crack, the skies opened up. The turbulent clouds parted dramatically, revealing a figure descending from above, radiating an aura of power and menace. It floated down gracefully, as if defying the laws of gravity, and finally touched down on the ground with a soft thud.
"Eclipse..." Amalia growled through clenched teeth, her resolve hardening as the full weight of the threat loomed before her.
"It hasn't moved since it first appeared over the city. Is it waiting for something?" one of the generals pondered aloud, his brow furrowing in concern.
"Why on earth did it come here?! Did Nidhogg summon it to wreak havoc?!" another officer exclaimed, his voice laced with panic as he gestured toward the towering creature looming ominously above them.
"This is a disaster of unprecedented scale. The situation is spiraling out of control," a third general warned, anxiety creeping into his tone.
"We stand no chance against this thing. We need to initiate an immediate evacuation of the entire capital city!" he insisted, urgency palpable in his voice.
Suddenly, a commanding female voice echoed through the air, as if cutting through the tension like a knife. "Humans! I require one thing."
The military personnel exchanged startled glances, their expressions a mix of confusion and dread. The atmosphere in the command center turned grave, with an eerie silence enveloping the room. The only sound that pierced the stillness was the distant blare of emergency sirens, a grim reminder of the chaos unfolding outside.
"If you wish to avoid your annihilation," the voice continued, resonating with an unearthly authority, "then you must return to me that which is mine."
"W-what the hell is she talking about?" one officer stammered, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"What is she asking for?" Rolf questioned, furrowing his brow in confusion. "Return what?"
"I don't know," the Prime Minister replied, her voice steady but filled with uncertainty. "But whatever it is, we have no choice but to comply. We cannot possibly win against that monstrosity."
"Ma'am… what should we do?" one of her aides interjected, the fear evident in their voice as they awaited her directive, knowing the weight of the decision that lay before them.
Amalia clenched her fists, rage and frustration swirling within her. Why was this happening? A sense of urgency washed over her; she needed to take action. Giving up was simply not an option.
"We have to do something about this," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We can't allow it to keep terrorizing us." Just then, the familiar hiss of the door opening broke her concentration, pulling her back to reality.
"Yuvuel? You're still here?" Amalia called out, her tone mingling relief and surprise.
The android strode into the room with deliberate, measured steps, her expression as stern as ever, reflecting the unwavering loyalty and steely determination that defined her existence. The dim lighting created shadows that danced across her metallic frame, emphasizing the rigid lines of her form.
"You've come to help us, haven't you?" Amalia inquired, her voice warm and inviting, her smile brightening the otherwise somber atmosphere of the dimly lit room. The flickering lights cast a soft glow, momentarily lifting the tension that hung in the air.
"No," Yuvuel replied sharply, abruptly halting several feet away from Amalia. Her posture was rigid, her stance unyielding, betraying nothing of the inner turmoil that churned within her circuits. "What have you taken from them?" she demanded, her voice low and unyielding like ice.
"Taken? What are you talking about?" Amalia asked, her brow knitting together in confusion, genuine bewilderment etched across her features.
"What did you take?!" Yuvuel repeated, her tone cutting through the room like a blade, cold and accusatory.
Amalia shook her head in disbelief, her heart racing. "What do you think we've taken from them?" she replied, her voice rising slightly as uncertainty filtered into her words.
"Who is it?! Answer me, dammit!" Yuvuel's intensity escalated as she stepped closer, the air around her thick with accusation and tension, her mechanical eyes narrowing into piercing slits.
"Calm down, Yuvuel. I truly don't know what you're referring to," Amalia attempted to soothe, trying to keep her voice steady against the rising tide of anxiety.
"Liar!" Yuvuel shouted, her sudden burst of emotion echoing off the walls. The locks on her weapon case flipped open with an ominous click that resonated through the room, sending a chill down Amalia's spine. In a swift motion, she drew a sleek, metallic weapon, its cold barrel now aimed directly at Amalia, reflecting a glint of harsh light.
"W-Wait! What are you doing?!" Amalia stammered, panic surging in her chest as adrenaline coursed through her veins.
The uniformed officers in the room reacted instinctively, their training kickstarting defensive protocols. They drew their own weapons, forming a protective barrier around Amalia and positioning themselves to guard against any threats. "Yuvuel! Stand down!" one of them commanded firmly, his authoritative voice cutting through the rising tension like a knife.
"Amalia. What did you do?" Yuvuel's voice now held a mix of fierce accusation and palpable desperation as she held her weapon steady, her gaze unwavering and fierce.
"What are you talking about, Yuvuel?" Amalia replied, her heart racing, eyes wide with bewilderment, struggling to comprehend the android's fury.
"You're hiding something. I know you are. What did you take from them?!" Yuvuel pressed, her intensity unwavering as if she wouldn't allow any room for evasion.
Amalia's expression shifted, a heavy sigh escaping her lips as the reality of the situation crashed over her like a tidal wave. "So it's come to this, huh? Exactly what I've taken," she murmured, her tone one of resignation. With a defeated gesture, she pointed toward Yuren, who stood uncertainly nearby, confusion etched across his features. "Him."
"Me?!" Yuren exclaimed, his eyes widening in shock and disbelief, completely caught off guard by the swirling chaos around him.
"You..." Yuvuel shot him a glare filled with accusation before grabbing his collar and pulling him along with her, urgency in her movement. "Come. I'm returning you," she commanded, her tone leaving no room for argument.
"Hold it, Yuvuel. You can't just take him," Amalia interjected, stepping forward, her resolve hardening as desperation echoed in her voice.
"Shut up! I'm preventing a disaster!" Yuvuel snapped, her patience fraying as adrenaline surged through her.
"You can't do this! Stop!" Amalia pleaded, panic lacing her words as she fought against the unfolding events.
"Shut up. Shut up! You have no right to say anything. What were you thinking? Taking him from them?" Yuvuel's voice grew more frantic, her fierce loyalty to her cause flaring.
"Because they'd eventually die out without anyone turning into their lord! Then we'd be able to create perfect androids," Amalia shouted, her eyes flashing with unrestrained hatred, those fierce emotions spilling over.
"I don't believe this... You're the true monster," Yuvuel growled, her voice filled with incredulity and anger as she dragged Yuren out of the command center, leaving behind the echoes of betrayal and chaos.
