Chapter 6 - Crush Them

[A few years later - U.A. Entrance - Metal's POV]

The Hatsume family stood before the entrance to U.A, the blue gates hovering over them menacingly while the main building reflected the sunlight as if it were a beacon.

"U.A is quite big..." said Miku Hatsume as she stared at the building with wide eyes. "It looks completely different from the photos."

"Does it? I think it looks the exact same," replied Kyosuke as he stood beside his wife looking at her with amusement.

"Of course it looks the same to you, you spent years in here."

A bit further from the married couple stood Metal and a crouching Mei.

"Energy Core?" asked the now taller female as she examined every part of Metal's silver frame.

"Motor functions? What about the reduction gear? Software functions? Are your camera lenses dirty? Should I grease your joints aga—ow!"

Mei put a hand on her forehead after receiving a flick from Metal.

"You just violated one of the fundamental laws of robotics..."

"For real?"

"Well it doesn't matter! Now let me check you one more time!"

Meanwhile, some of the students on their way to the exam turned to look at the odd duo with curiosity.

"Is that a robot?" asked a boy with white hair and a red left eye.

"Ha! No way, that's got to be some kind of mutation quirk," replied another student beside him.

"...Scary..." muttered a girl with glasses before walking away quickly.

As the stares and whispers continued, Metal stayed still while his creator kept fussing over him, the pink haired girl didn't even seem to notice the people around them as she made sure everything was in place.

"Are you sure the new upgrades are working as they should?"

[Hatsume's Residence - Basement/Workshop.]

Metal was standing in the center of the workshop while to his left, behind a reinforced glass panel, stood a 13-year-old Mei alongside her father.

"Okay, Metal, use Spin Dash!" Mei exclaimed as she pointed towards the dummy in front of Metal.

Metal wasted no time in following his creator's command. The robot jumped up before quickly tucking his arms and knees against his chest. Then, right as he was about to touch the ground, Metal leaned forward, turning into a small metallic ball.

Just as he touched the ground, Metal's form started spinning before accelerating forward.

Vrrrrrrrrrrt.

CLANK, SLAM!

A loud sound echoed through the basement as Metal impacted with the dummy.

The dummy unable to resist the force flew across the basement before smashing against the wall.

"It works!" Mei celebrated as she stepped out from behind the glass panel. "What do you think, Dad?"

"Looks pretty good to me," replied Kyosuke as he reached forward to ruffle his daughter's hair.

Metal's monotone voice came from within his body, catching Mei's attention.

"Yes?"

"Ah."

[Hatsume's Residence - Backyard.]

"Mei, are you sure this is safe?" asked Miku Hatsume as she stood beside her husband and daughter while the three of them looked towards the machine currently standing a few meters away from them.

"Have some faith, dear. I've been helping Mei with this. Not too much since I don't want Nezu to think she's cheating, but still there's nothing to worry about,"

Kyosuke tried to reassure to his wife while pushing his chest forward proudly.

"If you say so..."

"Metal! Activate flamethrower!" Mei ordered excitedly as her yellow eyes zoomed in to watch everything in detail.

Slowly Metal raised his hand towards the sky. Then, in his palm, a small circular hole opened before the tip of a small tantalum tube emerged.

Fwoosh.

A small burst of flames came from Metal's hand, quickly rising into the sky before stabilizing into a smaller stream of fire.

"Ahh! That's perfect!" the fourteen-year-old girl cheered as she jumped on the spot. "This is definitely flashy enough to gain attention."

Kyosuke glanced at his daughter before smirking. "You're right, sweetheart, but we have another thing to test, don't we?"

Then the man turned his gaze back towards Metal before speaking up. "Metal, switch to electric cannon." Kyosuke leaned sideways to whisper to his wife, "Watch closely, dear, I made like eighty percent of this one."

After hearing the order, Metal stopped the fire releasing from his palm, though the robot didn't change positions.

Then, after a few seconds, small sparks started forming at the tip of the tube.

Krrzzt.

A sharp, high-pitched sound started emanating from Metal's palm as slowly but surely a small ball of blue electricity started forming.

After a few seconds, the orb stopped growing at roughly the size of a tennis ball.

"I admit that looks pretty cool," Miku said as she stared at the small orb floating right above Metal's palm.

"Heh, of course it is, I made it aft—"

KRRZZZAAAP!

A wild sharp sound came from Metal's direction as the orb of electricity started growing rapidly until it reached the size of a basketball.

Just as Metal finished speaking, the electricity went wild and slammed down against his palm before traveling up to his forearm.

Bang!

The joints connecting Metal's forearm exploded, making the smoking limb fall down into the grass below.

Sparks flew from the stump that remained on Metal's right side, small cables and wires peeked out from within the remains of his arm.

"AHH! MY BABY!" Mei shouted before quickly adjusting her rubber-coated gloves as she dashed towards Metal.

"I think I made a small mistake—"

THWACK!

---

"Metal? Metal!"

Metal's camera lens focused back on the present as he heard his creator calling him.

"Did you hear what I said?" Mei asked as she dusted off her knees before standing up.

"Really?" Mei crossed her arms over her chest as she looked down at the small robot. "Then what was I saying?"

"Now listen here, you little—"

"Exams starting in five minutes, enter your designated areas..." A tired voice came from within the speakers on the walls, interrupting Mei's colorful words and making the girl let out a sigh.

"You should head inside, Metal," Mei's mother suggested as she approached her daughter's creation before giving him a headpat.

"Send us a message once you're done, okay? We'll come and pick you up," Kyosuke told the small robot as he stood behind the group, giving Metal a thumbs up.

The machine said before turning around and walking towards the auditorium.

"Metal!"

Metal paused in his steps before turning his head slightly to look over his plated shoulder.

"You better crush whatever they use for the test!" Mei said while grinning at her small companion.

"The future face of Hatsume Industries can't afford to be lame!"
