Chapter 30 - Chapter Thirty- The Fire That Follows

The harbor burned.

From the estate's upper balcony, the orange glow on the horizon looked like a second sunrise rising through the storm.

But there was nothing beautiful about it.

Those docks were the backbone of Alessandro De Luca's empire.

Weapons shipments.

Cargo routes.

Financial channels.

Years of power had flowed through that port.

And tonight—

Orlov had turned it to ash.

Inside the war room, the atmosphere had gone from tense to deadly quiet.

Adrian stared at the screen showing the live drone footage of the harbor.

"Four piers destroyed," he said.

"Three cargo ships completely lost."

He exhaled slowly.

"That's not just an attack."

Alessandro didn't respond.

He simply watched the flames on the screen.

The calmness in his expression made the room even more uneasy.

Because everyone present knew something about their Don.

When Alessandro De Luca lost his temper, people died.

But when he became silent…

Entire empires fell.

Elena Watches the Storm

Elena stood beside the window, the rain sliding down the glass like tears.

Her mind was still tangled with everything that had happened.

Her father.

The betrayal.

Valentina.

And now this war growing bigger by the hour.

She turned slightly, watching Alessandro.

The firelight from the screen reflected in his dark eyes.

He looked like a man carved from stone.

Unshaken.

Unbreakable.

But she knew better now.

Because beneath that control lived something dangerous.

Something capable of burning the entire city to the ground.

Adrian broke the silence.

"We have two options."

Alessandro finally looked away from the screen.

"Speak."

"We retaliate immediately," Adrian said.

"Or?"

"Or we regroup and figure out what Orlov's next move is."

Alessandro's answer came instantly.

"He doesn't get the next move."

Adrian sighed.

"I figured you'd say that."

The Counterattack

Within minutes, the estate became a command center.

Phones rang.

Encrypted messages moved across secure channels.

De Luca soldiers across the city received the same simple order.

Mobilize.

Adrian watched the tactical map slowly fill with blue markers representing their forces.

"You're sending everyone," he said.

"Yes."

"That leaves us exposed."

Alessandro looked at him.

"Orlov already exposed us."

Elena stepped closer to the table.

"What's the target?"

Adrian pulled up another map.

"Orlov owns five major operations in the city."

He pointed to the first.

"A casino in the financial district."

The second.

"A weapons warehouse near the industrial zone."

The third.

"Private security headquarters."

Alessandro studied the locations.

Then he shook his head.

"No."

Adrian frowned.

"No?"

"Eliminate the first two," Alessandro said.

"And the third?"

Alessandro's eyes darkened.

"I'm handling that one personally."

A Dangerous Plan

Adrian immediately protested.

"That's suicide."

"Is it?"

"Yes," Adrian snapped.

"You don't walk into Orlov's headquarters alone."

Alessandro picked up his coat.

"I'm not going alone."

Adrian blinked.

"You're bringing a team?"

Alessandro looked toward Elena.

"She's coming with me."

The room went silent again.

Adrian stared at him like he'd lost his mind.

"Absolutely not."

Elena crossed her arms.

"I didn't agree yet."

Alessandro stepped closer.

"You understand Orlov better than anyone now."

"That doesn't mean I should walk into his base."

"No," Alessandro said quietly.

"But it means you can help me end this."

Their eyes locked.

The tension between them from earlier still lingered.

But something else was there now too.

Trust.

Fragile.

Bruised.

But still alive.

Adrian ran a hand through his hair.

"I can't believe I'm about to say this…"

Both of them looked at him.

"…but she might actually help."

Elena raised an eyebrow.

"That sounded painful."

"It was," Adrian muttered.

A Hidden Truth

While the estate prepared for war, Elena stepped outside onto the balcony again.

The rain had slowed.

The storm clouds were drifting away.

But the glow from the burning harbor still stained the sky.

Footsteps approached behind her.

She didn't need to turn to know it was Alessandro.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Then he said quietly,

"I never meant for your father to die."

Elena closed her eyes briefly.

"I believe you."

The words surprised both of them.

"But that doesn't change what happened."

"No."

He stepped beside her, looking out over the city.

"If you want to leave after this war ends…"

She turned toward him.

"I won't stop you."

His voice held no anger.

No command.

Just acceptance.

And somehow that hurt more than anything else.

Elena studied his face.

The ruthless Don.

The man feared by half the city.

And the man who had unintentionally destroyed her family.

"You're planning to kill Orlov tonight," she said.

"Yes."

"And if you fail?"

"I won't."

She sighed softly.

"That's not what I asked."

For the first time, Alessandro hesitated.

Then he answered honestly.

"If I fail…"

He looked back at the burning horizon.

"…then this city burns with me."

The Real Enemy Moves

Across the city, deep inside a fortified tower of glass and steel, Orlov stood in a dark office overlooking the chaos at the harbor.

One of his advisors approached cautiously.

"Sir… De Luca's forces are mobilizing."

Orlov nodded.

"As expected."

"They're attacking our casino and warehouse already."

Orlov smiled faintly.

"Good."

The advisor frowned.

"Good?"

"Yes."

He walked toward the window, watching the distant fires.

"War reveals weaknesses."

"And De Luca?"

Orlov's eyes glinted.

"He's about to reveal his."

The advisor hesitated before speaking again.

"There's another development."

Orlov turned.

"The hacker?"

"Yes."

"Valentina Rossi."

The advisor nodded.

"She just breached another one of our financial servers."

Orlov chuckled softly.

"That woman is becoming irritating."

"Should we eliminate her?"

Orlov shook his head.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because she's about to serve a purpose."

The advisor looked confused.

"What purpose?"

Orlov's smile grew colder.

"To break Elena Rossi completely."

The Trap

Back at the estate, Adrian rushed into the war room.

"Alessandro."

"What is it?"

"We just intercepted another transmission."

"From Orlov?"

Adrian nodded slowly.

"He wants to talk."

Elena frowned.

"Now?"

"Yes."

Adrian turned the screen toward them.

A live video feed appeared.

Orlov sat comfortably in a leather chair, looking almost amused.

"Good evening," he greeted.

Alessandro's voice was ice.

"You destroyed my harbor."

Orlov smiled.

"You'll recover."

"And you won't."

Orlov leaned forward slightly.

"That depends."

Elena stepped closer to the screen.

"What do you want?"

Orlov's eyes flickered with interest.

"You."

Alessandro's hand tightened around the edge of the desk.

"You already tried that."

"Yes," Orlov admitted.

"But this time I brought leverage."

The screen shifted suddenly.

The image changed.

A new camera feed appeared.

Elena's breath caught.

Because the person tied to the chair on the screen—

Was Valentina.

Bruised.

Unconscious.

Captured.

Orlov's voice returned smoothly.

"I believe this belongs to you."

Elena's heart dropped.

Her sister had just become the next piece in the war.
