Mara held Nico's gaze for a few seconds. "And the pill bottle. If it was switched, the original medication would still be inside it… the right pills, the right label, nothing that looks wrong on the surface." She paused. "Has anyone checked it?"
Nico said nothing, meaning no one did.
"It would have been in his pockets when he died, but I'm guessing it will be in his private quarters now," she said.
"Yes."
"Then that's where we start."
Nico looked at her for another moment. Then he nodded once.
Just then, a knock sounded on the door.
Nico straightened. "Come in."
Luca opened the door and looked at Nico with the particular expression Mara had learned to read as urgent… the face of a man delivering bad news to someone he respected enough not to soften it for.
"We have something," Luca said. "Ferro's burner phone." A pause that filled the entire doorway. "It just pinged."
Nico went very still. "Location."
Luca held his gaze. "The east groundskeeper building. On the estate."
