Everyone knows the Digimon franchise—whether anime or games—has always been plagued with issues: contradictory settings, commercialization pressures, popularity polls, official favoritism, and all sorts of behind-the-scenes "business logic."
And after enough of those problems pile up, one especially painful phenomenon becomes universal across the series:
power scaling collapse.
Digimon combat strength can basically be benchmarked against toku heroes at this point. One generation's "fastest and strongest" becomes the next generation's stepping stone for the new poster child, like clockwork.
So if you're asking whether Negamon is the strongest villain… Narumi Akira couldn't really say.
But if you're talking about sheer maliciousness?
Then yeah—he'd gladly crown it the most sinister in franchise history.
And he wasn't saying that to hype it up.
Most Digimon anime villains do evil in very traditional ways: bloody domination, brute-force conquest, repainting the world with violence. The nastiest trick they usually pull is kidnapping hostages or using dark power to forcibly "corrupt" someone—classic stat-check villain behavior.
Negamon, on the other hand, started by sending subordinates to invade the real world, doxxed the Chosen Children's addresses, and then made preparations to flatten Tokyo like it was ordering takeout.
How was that even something a kids' anime villain should be able to do?
So Narumi Akira didn't expect an answer from Negamon at all.
If possible, he even wanted to believe this Negamon in his phone was nothing more than a hallucination—something that would vanish the moment he closed his eyes and opened them again.
Unfortunately…
In this short second life, he'd learned only one lesson:
his luck was genuinely terrible.
"Student Narumi Akira. The game that will determine your future has begun.
Please board the 17:45 train to Shibuya from Jiyūgaoka Station."
In an instant, a gentle voice flowed out of his phone.
And then—right in front of him—a crack appeared in the air.
The crack widened, spilling out dazzling sunlight that had no business existing in the middle of the night.
And in that light, Akira saw it clearly:
Jiyūgaoka Station's platform.
The sight was so unreal his brain started buzzing. For a moment, he genuinely couldn't process the information flooding in.
He didn't know if a second had passed… or a whole day.
"…Is this still Odaiba in '99?"
"And how the hell is a 'Holy Angewomon telecom-scam voice message from 2002' reaching me?"
"I said I wanted to be a Chosen Child—and this is where you send me?" Akira couldn't help complaining. "Or do you think I won't pass Homeostasis' background check, so I'm only qualified to be shipped to some no-questions-asked labor camp?"
Only after venting did he realize he'd ignored an even bigger problem.
"…That rift… you opened it, right?" Akira pointed at the station platform and forced himself to confirm. "…Can you close it?"
The moment the words left his mouth, the sunlit fissure vanished soundlessly—as if it had never existed at all.
Akira's face twitched.
He couldn't take it anymore.
This Negamon in my phone… it's not some random offshoot or variant—
It's the actual final-boss original from Digimon Adventure: 2020?!
Oh shit.
All I wanted was a "Chosen Child" slot, a partner Digimon, and a childhood dream fulfilled—why did I have to get targeted by something this hellish?
"I'm just saying…" Akira suppressed the urge to rant and tried a cautious approach. "Why are you looking for me? If you don't tell me anything, I can't understand what you want."
…I need a partner.
Akira stared at the text message in his phone, stunned.
"A partner? What kind of partner?"
A human partner who can make me stronger.
"?"
"??"
"???"
What does that even mean?
A flood of question marks detonated in Akira's brain.
You're a Digimon that can absorb negative emotions without limit, evolve beyond the very concept of good and evil—how much stronger do you still want to be?
Are we talking about something on the level of Proximamon—the fabled "was supposed to be the new star but died with a canceled show" legend?
Or something like Chronomon—buffed into a mythic-tier monster in Digimon World: Re:Digitize with the "Power of Time" patch, surpassing the Digital World's own operating system?
Or… that special-edition Omnimon powered by the prayers of the entire original-fanbase, the kind of narrative-tier cheat even Bandai and the animation team had to step back for—an Omnimon given a "miracle across time and space" description and a Shining-Tiga-level, purely willpower-based invincibility bonus?
Bro.
All three of those are the kind of corporate-mandated, story-layered hacks chosen by the gods of merchandising. Even if you killed me, I still wouldn't be able to make you that strong.
"…How exactly do you want to get stronger?" Akira racked his brain and tried to phrase it as gently as possible. "It's not false modesty—my abilities probably aren't enough to make you stronger."
I don't know.
Why did I lose?
Why didn't I die?
Why were they so strong?
"They…?" Akira latched onto the keyword. "You mean not only the Digimon that defeated you… but all the Digimon who dared to fight you?"
"You want to become 'strong' like them?"
Yes.
Akira's scalp went cold.
So this wasn't just a "reboot special" Negamon—it was the ending-version Negamon, beaten by a cheat-code Omnimon, not fully eradicated, and now… spiraling into self-doubt.
If that was the case…
Its mental state was a lot more stable than expected. And its demand for "getting stronger" didn't sound like raw combat power anymore—it sounded like it had stopped at the classic shōnen essentials:
a heart.
bonds.
In other words…
It wanted to become human?
Oh hell no—why does Negamon suddenly smell like that? (pinching nose)
…Still, "weird-smell Negamon" was better than "living-judge-of-the-underworld Negamon."
After a few more internal complaints, Akira steadied himself and spoke again:
"So… you chose me, to be your human partner?"
Yes.
"Wow. I'm so 'lucky.' I get an absurdly strong partner Digimon before Taichi and the others, and I get to start summer adventure mode ahead of them…" Akira's expression twisted into something unrecognizable—like a Hollow Knight waiting for Silksong.
"So what do you want me to do? Bring you to tomorrow's summer camp? Take you to the Chosen Children's 'interview session'?"
Whatever.
"'Whatever'?! You're treating me like some menu-clicking NPC, aren't you?"
Fine. Fine.
If you're going to be that inhuman about it, don't blame me for making demands.
"We don't even have a Digivice between us—how are we supposed to be partners?" Akira threw caution to the wind. "You can open dimensional gates, so getting me a Digivice shouldn't be hard, right?"
What kind of Digivice do you want?
"…You can actually get one?" Akira blinked. "Well, if we're choosing, then I do need to think about which Digivice is the most useful…"
After a brief moment of consideration, he found an answer he liked.
"…Can you get me a Xros Loader? The one that lets Digimon fuse and DigiXros, can store an army's worth of Digimon, and even has spatial teleportation."
"That's probably the best cost-performance Digivice out there," Akira added. "If I can choose, the Xros Loader is a great pick."
Xros Loader… I understand.
A surge of darkness poured from Akira's phone, spearing into the void and tearing open a massive rift.
In an instant, countless torrents of data erupted from within, engulfing him—dragging him into the world beyond the裂缝.
He didn't even have time to swear properly before he saw it:
On the other side was a Digital World shattered by endless war—split into 108 independent zones, fragmented into isolated spaces.
He knew exactly where he was being sent.
A world where the sixth-generation Digital World existed—
the kind of place where a Xros Loader could be obtained.
And he also knew—
His own Digimon Adventure was beginning.
His heart filled with emotions too complicated to summarize.
In the end, only one raw, honest shout escaped his lips:
"Oh shit—I want to go home!"
