Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Nene Amano, I’ve Been Waiting for You

Landing steadily on the mountain peak—and narrowly avoiding the kind of ending where you become an airborne ragdoll—Narumi Akira was in a terrible mood.

"Negamon, I asked if you could get me a Xros Loader as a Digivice. If you can't, just say so. Was it really necessary to drag me into a war-torn world like this?" he complained. "Even if I fail tomorrow's 'Chosen Children interview,' you can't just make it impossible for me to attend!"

[Investigation Result:] The Xros Loader is a special device developed by Bagramon, who obtained partial authority from the World Tree, after researching how human "emotions" influence Digimon evolution.

This device's DigiXros capability is essentially a fusion of this Digital World's remaining evolutionary concept and residual administrative privileges—therefore, it can only be manufactured locally.

Akira nearly choked.

"I can say 'Xros Loader' out loud—do you think I don't know how it's made?" He snapped at the phone. "Just tell me it's a regional specialty and I have to get it here. Why the hell would you skip the explanation and yank me in without even warning me?"

Sorry. I didn't consider that.

Akira stared.

Dear god. Where did this robot of a Negamon even come from?

…Then again, a socially awkward "robot" was still better than a festering, irredeemable monster. At least it could apologize.

"It's fine," Akira said, equal parts exasperated and resigned. "It's our first time teaming up—there's bound to be a learning curve. Next time you open a portal, put the coordinates on solid ground. I can't fly."

Understood.

Once he forced his emotions back into something stable, Akira immediately started analyzing the situation.

"By the way, Negamon—can you still open a door back to my home from here?"

Yes.

"Good." Akira finally exhaled. "Then let me ask: when you open a door over here, do you need anything special? Prep time? A specific location?"

This world's order has already collapsed. It cannot impose effective restrictions on my actions.

"So… if you were in a Digital World with intact order, it could restrict you?" Akira pressed. "How strong can that restriction get? Like—banishing you into a sealed subspace? Kicking you beyond a firewall?"

I don't know.

Some guardians of the Digital World are insignificant. Some guardians are difficult to defeat.

"In other words: case by case." Akira nodded rapidly, then asked, "Is this world dangerous to you?"

Not to me.

"So it's dangerous to me, then." Akira sighed. "Fair enough. Humans are fragile compared to Digimon, and I'm not just a human—I'm an elementary school kid."

Then… do you want to go back?

Do you need me to open the door now?

Maybe he'd actually taken Akira's advice to heart—Negamon even added an extra line for once.

"No need."

"Since ancient times, danger has always come bundled with opportunity," Akira said firmly. "And besides—I'm already here. If I leave without looting something, wouldn't that be a total loss?"

But… didn't you say you had an interview to attend?

Akira smiled.

"Why do you think I wanted to be a Chosen Child in the first place?" he said lightly. "For 'honor'? To shoulder responsibilities no elementary schooler should bear? To become a glorified laborer with the title of 'savior'?"

Then why?

"Obviously—for the Digivice and a partner Digimon," Akira answered, dead serious. "Now that the Xros Loader is right in front of me, why would I gamble on Homeostasis handing me a Holy Plan tomorrow?"

I see.

Then what do you plan to do?

"I'm not interested in some ordinary Xros Loader. If I'm doing this, I'm taking the strongest one I can get."

Akira's grin turned positively cheerful.

"I want the Darkness Xros Loader—the one that can ignore a Digimon's own will and force them into DigiXros."

He paused, eyes bright with malicious delight.

"Negamon. You won't get swallowed by a little Digimon grudge, right?"

The so-called Great Destruction felt absolutely nothing at the question.

That is merely my food.

"…"

Akira wasn't exactly a fan of Digimon Xros Wars. He thought the power scaling was completely busted, and the plot twists were wrapped so tightly they felt manufactured.

But he still remembered this world's basic structure.

Put simply: it was a Digital World where the "gods" had been too lazy, system bugs had piled up until the spaghetti code finally exploded, and the entire realm fractured into 108 separate zones.

And because the bugs were so severe, most Digimon had not only lost the "power of evolution"—they'd forgotten the very concept of "evolution."

So battles here no longer followed evolution stages. It came down to two things:

data volume and authority.

Data volume was self-explanatory.

As for "authority," it referred to the symbol of sovereignty held by each zone's ruler—

the Code Crown.

And whenever Akira thought about Code Crowns, he had endless complaints.

Because in a very real sense, they were too convenient. Too omnipotent.

In theory, if you possessed a Code Crown, you didn't just gain control over its corresponding zone—you could open dimensional passages to other zones, and even rewrite environmental parameters within your current zone.

Not only that, the Code Crown could record Digimon data within the zone, ensuring that Digimon could "die" and be restored. It could even grant the holder permission to rewrite a Digimon's form and personality.

Worst of all: you didn't need to be on site to do any of it. Remote control was enough, which meant almost no one could interfere.

Even the core antagonist of this era—Bagramon—only became the true Digimon Emperor after he physically bodied the Chosen Children and stole their Code Crowns.

Which meant, in this world, a Code Crown was basically divine authority. A shard of the law. Administrator privileges that could be overwritten by classic mechanics.

So Akira's plan was simple:

First, establish himself as a "human commander" worth following. Then, seize a Code Crown from a still-unconquered zone, build a power base, and create his own faction.

Once the plan was set, Akira moved immediately—and within three weeks, he had real results:

Week One: He went to the front lines and let Negamon absorb the battlefield's negative emotions. He weaponized that malignant information and distributed it to the resistance, boosting their combat effectiveness.

Week Two: After earning enough prestige to be recognized as the resistance's human commander, he embraced the fine art of picking on the weak. He led the resistance into Blastmon's territory, exploited the fact that Blastmon's brain was as smooth as polished glass, seized multiple domains under his rule, and claimed multiple Code Crowns—making a name that echoed across the zones.

Week Three: Using the Code Crowns he'd accumulated, he processed the malignant intel Negamon collected into something "harmless," then offered Digimon who sought evolution an alternative path: mechanical augmentation. From there, he began building a Digimon legion.

That legion was called—

The Wild Hunt.

After three weeks of growth, just as Narumi Akira was preparing to contend for dominion over the Digital World, a development arrived that genuinely delighted him.

"May I ask… are you the master of the Wild Hunt—Narumi Akira?"

From a suddenly formed Digital passageway, a girl stepped out among the Wild Hunt's ranks. In her hand was a black Xros Loader.

She wore a mature smile far beyond her apparent age. With elegant poise, she lifted her skirt in a formal curtsy and introduced herself softly.

"My name is Nene Amano. I am Twilight's commander… and also your admirer."

Faced with the girl's abrupt arrival, Akira laughed.

He laughed with the pure joy of an angler who'd fished an empty spot for three straight weeks—only to finally feel a massive bite on the line.

"Nene Amano," he said warmly, eyes shining, "I've been waiting for you for a long time."

Waiting for you to deliver the Darkness Xros Loader straight into my hands.
