"After I leave this house tomorrow morning… don't come looking for me again," he said quietly. "Stop following me. Just stop."
Matteo didn't blink. He reached out, his fingers tracing the edge of the table. "You want the truth, Adrian?"
Adrian nodded once. "Yes."
"I'm not going to stop," Matteo said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, honest vibration. "I won't stop. Not now."
Adrian's heart raced, but he didn't back down. "Fine. I know exactly what I have to do then."
"And what exactly are you going to do?" Matteo asked.
Adrian didn't answer.
He pushed his chair back abruptly, the legs scraping harshly against the floor.
"I want to sleep," he said. "But I need to shower first."
Matteo didn't argue.
As Adrian stood up, he rose as well and moved to the bed. Without a word, he picked out a set of silk pajamas and laid them out, dark, expensive, and far too large for Adrian's frame.
Adrian glanced at them, then picked them up and went into the bathroom.
