Chapter 23 - Chapter 22 - Trial 1 (2)

"So we all won our first fights huh? I guess our team is pretty amazing!" Justin said.

The six of them were waiting on the side of the building. They were taking a smoke break since they had to wait for others to have matches before being able to compete again.

"So how about the one with the lowest scores buys drinks?" Kiara asked.

"You're an alcoholic, but im in." Travis said.

"You're all going to see how amazing I am then!" Rebecca said, putting her fists on her hips and puffing out her chest.

"We all know how amazing you are babe, after all you didn't have to come back on a stretcher." Kiara said, throwing her arm around Rebecca and staring teasingly at Lance, Justin, and Victor.

"Hey! I only got injured saving her!" Lance protested. Then he grabbed Rebecca and pulled her away from Kiara and into his arms. "And she's MY babe. Not yours."

"Ill win her heart eventually." Then Kiara turned to Justin and Victor. "So whats your excuses then?"

"I got injured protecting him." Victor said pointing at Justin.

"I got injured cause he sucked at protecting me." Justin snapped back.

"Hey! You six! We are going back through the order, y'all are up next so get your asses in here."

They all headed inside and separated for their second matches, headed to the wall first to choose a weapon.

Travis selected a long sword and entered the mat, finding himself across from a woman from 2nd platoon. She had a pair of gauntlets on the went from fingertip to elbow, and widened towards the elbow to allow for better defense.

As the fight began she immediately charged in trying to close the distance. Travis executed a quick downwards slash then thrust to force her back, but she just parried the blows and kept closing.

She threw a punch with her left that Travis barely managed to block with the flat of his blade, then a right which he was unable to block in time. It connected squarely with his face, sending him flying to the edge of the ring.

"Whats the matter future boy, can't do anything without those abilities of yours?" She asked.

Travis stood, and wiped a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth. "I can do without them just fine. I will admit I underestimated you though. It won't happen again."

With themat he charged her with another downwards slash that she once again avoided. This time however he followed it up with a front kick that knocked the wind out of her, immediately followed up with a horizontal slash that caught her shoulder with a loud "CRACK".

She threw a left jab, which he leaned to the right to avoid then slammed the pommel into her face. She roared in fury and threw a roundhouse kick into his gut, forcing him to hunch over, then laces her fingers together before slamming them into the back of his head.

Travis gritted his teeth, and spun slamming the pommel into the underside of her chin, then leaned back to continue the motion, slamming the tip of the sword into the same spot with a loud "CRACK CRACK". Then he rotated the sword and brought it down on the top of her head with another loud "CRACK" before jumping out of range.

She reached up and touched her lip with was covered in blood, examining it, before looking up at him with fire in her eyes.

Travis could feel the blood from the back of his head running through his hair and down his neck, so he felt no need to check. The two stood there for a moment staring at each other and breathing heavily, then charged back in.

She stepped in and threw a cross, which Travis stepped to the left to avoid before slamming the wooden blade into the side of her face, whipping her head around and causing her to stumble back.

At this point the drill floor had gone silent, everyone watching the match with a mix of fear and admiration. She turned her face towards Travis and opened her eyes, which were glowing orange. There was an audible gasp from the spectators.

"That's enough!" The referee shouted.

The woman charged in anyway. Throwing a jab, which Travis barely avoided, then she bent her arm and slammed her elbow into his face. She threw another cross which Travis blocked with the sword, but a loud "CRACK" could be heard as her punch snapped the wooden sword in half then slammed into his gut.

Travis went flying, again. He slowly stood up to look at his opponent, then briefly at the shattered remains of his weapon before tossing it aside. Although Travis himself was unaware, the spectators could see his eyes glowing purple.

"I need back up! We have to stop this now!" The referee shouted. But to Travis, it sounded like barely a whisper. All he could see was the woman before him.

They both charged in once more, seemingly throwing defense to the wayside. They threw punches and kicks, elbows and knees. Quickly however, it became apparent that they were using their abilities, and whose were better.

She started landing less and less as Travis weaved through her attacks like they were moving in slow motion, landing counter attacks for each and every one. Finally, it happened.

Travis threw a knee strain into her diaphragm, then an elbow to her back forcing her to lean over. He wrapped his arm around her neck and guillotined her, making her drop to her knees, gasping for breath. Then he grabbed her face and slammed her head into the ground.

She threw a knee into his face, stunning him for just a moment, and used that to force him to his knees and catch him in a triangle. She squeezed as hard as she could, but suddenly found herself off the ground.

Travis lifted her off the ground and slammed her back into it repeatedly. After the fourth time, he felt her grip loosen and slit his free hand in between her thigh and his neck and forced his way out of the hold. He roared in fury and lunged at her.

At the same time both of them wrapped their hands around the other's neck, squeezing tighter and tighter.

Suddenly there was a prick in his shoulder, and he saw a syringe sticking out of hers. Everything started feeling fuzzy, then the world went black and he collapsed on top of her.
