Mrs. Logan's face went pale. Her lips trembled nonstop, but she couldn't make a sound.
Mr. Sinclair, however, didn't spare her another glance. He said something to Chloe Sinclair and turned to leave.
Chloe had no desire to linger in this place either. She fell into step with her father, ready to head upstairs with him.
This left Mrs. Logan all alone, slumped on the ground like a pile of muck.
"No, this can't be happening..."
The pay from the Sinclair family was indeed good. Even at fifty or sixty years old, she earned more in a year than most people. A significant part of that came from the grocery money the Sinclairs gave her.
