Chapter 192 - Chapter 192: Not a Soul, but Consciousness

Dan's control over his body had reached an unbelievable level, far beyond the cellular scale. In fact, it had gone much deeper than that, reaching layers for which no precise terminology even existed, especially now that he was preparing to construct the final Sixth Vitality Seal.

Because of this, he understood every part of his body with absolute precision and knew how to use it to its utmost potential. He understood the source of his power and the operation of the entire system within him as though it were an open book with no hidden pages. Every cell, every chemical reaction, and every wave of energy flowing through him was clearly visible to his perception.

Yet it was precisely this profound level of bodily understanding that had caused him genuine frustration for a very long time. No matter how deeply he examined himself and no matter how far he pushed his perception into the finest details of his existence, he could never sense anything that could truly be called a soul in the literal sense.

He never found that independent metaphysical essence described by people across countless civilizations and cultures. It was as though the thing he was searching for simply did not exist within any layer he could access, no matter how far he reached.

Did that mean he possessed no soul?

Absolutely not.

That conclusion was the first one he discarded because it contradicted both logic and the undeniable sense of identity, will, and inner presence that defined his existence. What eventually helped him resolve this troubling mystery and regain intellectual clarity was the realization that he needed to completely redefine his understanding of what a soul actually was. It was a concept that would become even clearer and more complete as his understanding of this world continued to deepen.

The starting point of this realization was chakra itself.

At its foundation, chakra consisted of two primary components that could not function without one another: spiritual energy on one side and physical energy derived from the material body on the other. This was the basic principle understood by every practitioner of the chakra system in this world, but for Dan it also became the foundation for a far deeper and more precise understanding.

As far as spiritual energy was concerned, its source was undoubtedly the soul. On that point there was no disagreement. However, if one wished to simplify the concept and analyze it more accurately, spiritual energy could be described as the commands and awareness emitted by the soul and flowing outward toward the body and the world. The brain, meanwhile, functioned as the material computer that processed those commands and translated them into actions and tangible interactions within physical reality.

If spiritual energy originated from the soul and the brain served as the processor, then where exactly was the soul within this equation?

That was the question Dan had never been able to answer no matter how deeply he explored. It was also a question he calmly accepted that he might never answer regardless of how powerful or advanced he became in the future.

The soul did not appear to belong to any of the material or energetic dimensions he could sense, measure, interact with, or explore. It seemed to exist in an entirely separate dimension or perhaps an entirely different level of existence that transcended anything that could be measured, perceived, or even indirectly detected by any conceivable tool.

Within the framework he had reached, the soul was the true and original identity of a person in the deepest possible sense. It was Dan himself at his most fundamental level. It was not his body, not his brain, not his consciousness, and not even his will. All of those were merely tools and vessels. The soul was the underlying reality hidden behind them all.

So then what were the entities that entered the Pure Land after death and could later be summoned or even resurrected through techniques such as Tobirama's if they were not true souls in the fundamental sense?

Here Dan discovered an answer that was both surprising and unsettling.

Not unsettling because it threatened him personally, but because of what it implied for nearly every common belief in this world regarding death, life, resurrection, and summoning.

The conclusion he reached was that these were not true souls at all.

What entered the Pure Land after death was the accumulated will and consciousness of living beings the layer of existence formed through a lifetime of experiences, memories, personality traits, and patterns of thought. After death, this layer separated from the physical body and entered the Pure Land.

However, it was not the soul itself.

Rather, it was something closer to an imprint or a copy of the individual, composed of their consciousness, will, and experiences as they had developed and interacted within this world.

In other words and perhaps more clearly, though far more harshly when someone died, they truly died.

They could not be revived in the genuine sense, nor could they truly be summoned back.

What techniques such as the Second Hokage's Edo Tensei actually brought forth was merely the consciousness and will that had entered the Pure Land after death. It was an extraordinarily accurate reproduction of the individual in terms of memory, personality, knowledge, and behavior, but it was not the person's original essence and it was not their true soul.

The real soul had gone somewhere else, somewhere no one could trace, reach, or retrieve.

This meant that the concepts of resurrection and summoning commonly used throughout this world were fundamentally incorrect.

What truly occurred was the summoning of a consciousness-copy rather than genuine resurrection.

The distinction was not merely philosophical. It carried practical consequences for how such techniques should be understood, utilized, and interpreted.

Even Dan himself could now leave his body in a state resembling what people in this world referred to as a soul leaving the body. Yet he knew with absolute certainty that this was not a soul in any genuine sense. It was simply his consciousness and will given form through his immense spiritual power outside of his physical body.

It was a remarkable and advanced technique, but it had nothing to do with the true soul, which remained within its own inaccessible dimension beyond the reach of all such powers and methods.

The soul remained where it always had been completely separate from every technique, every energy, and every interaction.

As for his own soul, it was something even he could not reach despite his tremendous power. More than that, he was convinced that no being, regardless of strength or advancement, would ever be able to truly reach that concept anywhere within this universe.

This realization helped him understand the world with far greater accuracy and completeness.

He understood the nature of the Pure Land, the nature of what inhabited it, and the nature of the techniques that interacted with it.

And this accumulated understanding provided a clear conceptual framework for the grand plan he intended to implement in the future a plan aimed at elevating, strengthening, and advancing the human civilization of this planet until it became capable of confronting whatever beings might one day arrive from the depths of outer space.
