I shot upright in bed, done pretending to be asleep. My eyes scanned the room for the owners of the bickering voices that had been drilling into my skull.
We all stared at each other wide-eyed. Two men in masks huddled in the corner—one clutching a half-eaten loaf of bread, the other poised to lunge at his partner.
"Are you two… dating?" I teased, propping my chin in my hand.
How adorable! Kidnappers with domestic squabbles? Who would've thought?
The bread-holding one choked on his own spit, hacking and pounding his chest. His companion rushed over to thump his back, their bodies pressed close as they fussed over each other.
