David entered his beautiful, luxurious apartment at the top of the city. The large glass windows showed a breathtaking view of the skyline. Outside, the rain was pouring heavily, covering the city in a silver curtain.
He closed the door behind him and walked slowly into the living room.
The room was elegant and spacious, but his mind wasn't focused on the apartment or the view.
All he could think about was Luisa.
The way she had closed her eyes earlier, the way she had looked scared, and how she seemed to feel safe standing near him.
David knew something clearly—Luisa didn't see him the way he saw her.
He stood near the window, watching the rain fall while his thoughts drifted back to the first day he saw her.
The First Day at University
David had been sitting quietly in the corner of the classroom. Everything felt new—the university, the students, the environment.
But nothing caught his attention until Luisa walked into the class.
The moment he saw her, something inside him shifted.
It felt strange… almost like time had paused for a second. Like something frozen inside him had suddenly started moving again.
Luisa walked quietly to her seat.
She wasn't someone who talked much. Most of the time she seemed lost in her own world.
But for David, she was someone he couldn't stop noticing.
Many times he wanted to talk to her.
But he didn't dare.
Sometimes she looked so distant, so lost in her thoughts that he didn't want to disturb her.
Without realizing it, David had started liking her.
Every time he thought about Luisa, he felt a small warmth spreading through his chest.
David sighed and walked to his kitchen.
He opened the refrigerator and took out a can of coffee.
Then he walked back to the living room and sat on the sofa, placing the coffee can on the table before leaning back.
Every time he closed his eyes, Luisa's face appeared in his mind.
He opened his eyes again.
David (thinking):
Why do I feel so protective of her?
Why do I want to take care of her so much?
Outside, the rain slowly stopped.
And somehow, the storm inside David's heart calmed a little too.
The Next Day
It was the weekend, so the university was closed.
Luisa was still sleeping when her phone suddenly started ringing.
She slowly opened her eyes and picked up the phone.
Luisa (sleepy voice):
"Good morning, Mom."
Her mother laughed softly.
Mom:
"Good morning, honey. Are you still sleeping?"
Luisa:
"Yeah… I'm good. How are you?"
Mom:
"I'm good, honey. I called to tell you something important. Your cousin's wedding has been fixed."
Luisa sat up slightly.
Luisa:
"Wow! That's great! But why did you call me this early?"
Mom:
"Because the wedding will take place in Himmer."
Luisa's eyes widened.
Luisa:
"What? That's amazing!"
Mom:
"Okay, honey. I'll call you later."
Luisa:
"Okay, Mom. Bye."
She looked at her phone.
It was already 10:00 AM.
Luisa got up from bed, freshened up, and wore comfortable clothes. Her hair was tied into a messy bun, yet she still looked naturally beautiful.
She walked into her small kitchen and made breakfast for herself.
After eating, she wanted to make a cup of coffee.
But when she opened the cabinet—
There was no coffee left.
She sighed.
Luisa:
"Great…"
So she grabbed her jacket and went downstairs to the nearby store.
As she stepped outside, a cool, fresh breeze touched her face. The air felt clean and peaceful after last night's heavy rain.
The sky was clear, the sun shining brightly, though the streets were still wet.
When she entered the store, she began looking for coffee.
Then suddenly—
She froze.
Her steps stopped.
Ben was there.
Luisa immediately turned, thinking about leaving quietly.
But before she could go—
A voice called her.
Ben:
"Hey, Luisa."
Luisa stopped.
Her heart began beating faster.
She slowly turned around.
Luisa (awkwardly):
"Hi… Ben."
Ben walked toward her.
Ben:
"Hey. You're here?"
Luisa:
"Yeah… I was just buying some coffee."
Ben:
"Oh, nice. I'm here to buy some milk."
They walked together to the counter.
Cashier:
"599."
Luisa quickly paid.
Meanwhile, Ben walked away to grab something else.
A moment later he returned—holding two cans of coffee.
Luisa walked outside the store.
Then she heard his voice again from behind.
Ben:
"Hey, wait."
Luisa turned.
Ben caught up to her and handed one of the coffee cans to her.
Luisa:
"Ah… no, thank you."
Ben smiled slightly.
Ben:
"Come on. You're my friend. Drinking one coffee with me won't hurt."
Luisa hesitated but finally accepted the coffee.
They began walking together.
Luisa:
"By the way… you live here?"
Ben:
"Actually, I live just a block away."
Luisa looked surprised.
Luisa:
"What? You mean you live nearby?"
Ben nodded.
Luisa suddenly understood something.
Luisa:
"So that's why you gave me a ride that day."
Ben:
"Yeah… but you're my friend too."
Luisa:
"Oh… I see."
They continued walking side by side.
The weather was beautiful, sunlight warming the streets after the rain.
Luisa found herself glancing at Ben quietly.
Without even realizing it.
