Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 – New Players

The next week changed everything.

News of Ethan's newest acquisition spread quietly at first. A logistics firm that most analysts had considered stagnant suddenly surged in value after being purchased through a network of holding companies.

Most investors didn't know who was behind the deal.

But inside the industry, whispers had already begun.

Someone young.

Someone bold.

Someone moving far too fast.

Inside Ethan's office, the atmosphere had grown sharper.

Charts glowed across multiple screens, financial models shifting every few seconds as the AI system Ethan had built recalculated predictions. Numbers climbed, fell, then stabilized again.

Aria stood beside the large central desk, scanning the projections.

"You're pushing harder than usual," she said calmly.

Ethan didn't look up from the tablet in his hand.

"Momentum matters."

"Yes," Aria replied.

"But so does timing."

She tapped the screen nearest her.

"If you accelerate this expansion too quickly, competitors will notice."

"They already have."

Aria studied him for a moment.

"You're reacting."

"Adjusting."

"To Lena."

The name again.

Aria had stopped pretending she didn't know.

Ethan set the tablet down.

"She's a factor."

"You're letting her become more than that."

Before Ethan could answer, the office intercom chimed.

"Mr. Cole," the receptionist's voice said, slightly nervous. "Your guests have arrived."

Ethan glanced at Aria.

"The Palvin siblings."

Aria nodded.

"Showtime."

The Palvin Siblings

Two figures entered the office a few minutes later.

The first was tall, confident, dressed in a deep grey suit that probably cost more than a luxury car. His expression carried the relaxed arrogance of someone who had never lost a serious negotiation.

Chris Palvin.

Behind him walked his sister.

Lena Palvin—no relation to Ethan's Lena, but equally striking in her own way. She wore a dark green dress under a sharp black coat, her posture straight, her gaze cool and observant.

Between the two siblings, their combined company controlled billions in assets across technology and manufacturing.

Chris smiled the moment he saw Ethan.

"So you're the famous young man everyone's talking about."

Ethan extended a hand calmly.

"I prefer to keep things quiet."

Chris laughed.

"You're doing a terrible job of that."

They shook hands.

Chris glanced around the office.

"Not bad for someone your age."

Aria stepped forward.

"Coffee?"

Chris raised a hand politely.

"Later."

His attention returned to Ethan.

"You bought three companies this month."

"Four."

Chris blinked.

"Four?"

Aria nodded calmly.

"The fourth closes tonight."

Chris looked impressed.

"Ambitious."

His sister, Lena Palvin, finally spoke.

Her voice was smooth and precise.

"Ambition isn't the interesting part."

Everyone turned toward her.

She studied Ethan carefully.

"The interesting part is how you did it without anyone noticing."

Ethan met her gaze.

"Observation is an underrated skill."

Her lips curved slightly.

"Yes."

She stepped closer to the desk.

"But eventually… everyone notices."

Chris leaned casually against a chair.

"That's why we're here."

"To stop me?"

Chris laughed again.

"No."

He gestured around the office.

"To see if you're worth working with."

Aria's eyes flickered briefly toward Ethan.

This was exactly the kind of opportunity they had been preparing for.

Bigger players.

Higher stakes.

Chris continued.

"You're young."

"Yes."

"You're aggressive."

"Yes."

"And you're attracting attention from people who usually ignore newcomers."

Ethan folded his arms.

"That's the goal."

Chris grinned.

"Good answer."

His sister spoke again.

"But success attracts enemies."

Her sharp gaze didn't leave Ethan.

"Some of them are already watching you."

Ethan's mind immediately flashed to one person.

Lena.

Then another.

The investors who had refused him entry months ago.

The ones who had laughed when he tried to join their private bunker meetings.

They wouldn't be laughing much longer.

Chris straightened.

"So here's the real question."

He placed both hands on the desk.

"Are you building an empire… or are you just gambling with money?"

Ethan leaned slightly forward.

The room fell silent.

"Empires aren't built with money," he said calmly.

"They're built with control."

Chris studied him for a long moment.

Then he smiled slowly.

"Alright."

He pushed away from the desk.

"Now I'm interested."

His sister glanced at him.

"You're convinced already?"

"Not convinced."

Chris looked back at Ethan.

"But curious."

Lena Palvin stepped closer to Ethan.

Her voice dropped slightly.

"If we work together, your influence grows quickly."

"And the cost?"

Her expression didn't change.

"Everything valuable has one."

The tension in the room thickened.

Aria watched the exchange carefully.

Chris suddenly clapped his hands once.

"Well."

He looked between them.

"This partnership discussion just got interesting."

Elsewhere in the City

Inside a dim private lounge, another woman watched the financial reports on her phone.

Lena Voss.

Her expression hardened as she read the latest news.

"Young Investor Expands Influence With New Strategic Alliance Talks."

She recognized the names immediately.

The Palvin siblings.

Powerful.

Connected.

Dangerous.

Her fingers tightened around the glass in her hand.

"Chris Palvin," she murmured.

Then she smiled slowly.

"So the sharks are starting to circle."

Her gaze shifted to Ethan's name on the article.

"You're climbing too fast."

Her smile faded into something darker.

"And if you climb too high…"

She whispered softly.

"…you might forget who helped you get there."

End of Chapter 45 Hook

Back in Ethan's office, Chris Palvin leaned forward again with a grin.

"One more thing."

Ethan raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

Chris smirked.

"You've got enemies already."

"That's normal."

Chris laughed.

"No."

His eyes glinted.

"I mean real enemies."

Ethan's expression sharpened.

Chris lowered his voice.

"Someone powerful has been asking questions about you."

Aria stiffened slightly.

Ethan's voice stayed calm.

"Who?"

Chris smiled.

"That's what we're about to find out."
