Chapter 113 - the call

Chapter: The Call That Shattered Me

(Keifer's POV)

My phone buzzed against the table, and I saw Aries' name flashing on the screen. I hesitated for a second—something in my gut told me this wasn't going to be a normal call. Still, I answered.

"Keif…" Aries' voice was steady but heavy, like he was carrying something I didn't want to hear.

"Yeah?" I tried to sound casual, but my heart was already tightening in my chest.

There was a pause. And then he said it.

"She's… moving on, Keif."

I froze. The words hung in the air like a blade pressed to my chest. "W-what?"

"Jay," he continued gently, "she's decided to focus on herself. Her future. School, life… she wants to move forward without thinking about you."

I could hear the weight of it in his voice. I swallowed hard, trying to catch my breath, but it felt impossible. My chest tightened. My hands shook slightly, gripping the phone like it was my only lifeline.

"Moving on…?" I repeated, barely above a whisper. "After everything… she's just… letting me go?"

Aries let out a quiet sigh. "Keif… you knew this could happen. She's strong, and she's hurting. She needs to find herself. She… she's done waiting for you."

My head fell back against the chair. The walls of my room suddenly felt smaller. I imagined her there in New York, smiling faintly as she concentrated on her studies, maybe laughing with Percy or Aries. And I wasn't there. I couldn't be there.

"I… I didn't get a chance to explain. To tell her everything," I whispered, my voice breaking. "I never wanted this… I never wanted to lose her like this."

"She'll heal, Keif," Aries said softly. "But right now… she has to choose herself. And you… you have to let her, no matter how much it hurts."

The line went silent for a moment. I felt hollow, but I also felt the sharp sting of reality pierce through me. She had decided. She was moving on. I had lost her—at least for now.

"I… I understand," I finally managed, my voice raw. "Tell me… tell me she's okay, Aries. Promise me she's okay."

"She's stronger than you think," he said gently. "She'll be okay. And so will you, eventually."

I hung up the call slowly, staring at the black screen of my phone. My heart ached like nothing ever had before. The girl I thought I'd never live without had decided to live without me.

I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of every choice, every mistake, every moment I couldn't take back. And in that silence, I promised myself: if there was ever a chance to get her back, I wouldn't waste it. But for now… I had to let her go.
