Just as they were about to cross the threshold into the main building, Kallos stilled. His silver eyes glazed over, the pupils expanding until they nearly swallowed the iris, and his nostrils flared as he caught a sharp, distinct thread in the air. The low murmur of Dewan and Hecate's voices suddenly seemed to drift into a far distance, sounding like a muffled hum through thick glass. The world around him faded into a blur of grey, leaving only one vibrant, pulsing trail of scent that made his blood burn.
"Kallos?" Hecate called out, stopping when he realized the King was no longer following them.
"Your Majesty, are you okay?" Hecate's voice was a distant echo, barely registering in the King's consciousness. Dewan, Ezra, and Aodhan all turned back, their expressions shifting from curiosity to a mounting unease as they watched the King of Omnia freeze in place.
