Chapter 18 - Path Through the Shattered Sky

Chapter 18: Path Through the Shattered Sky

Kael stepped over the scorched earth, Skybreaker resting lightly in his hands. The battlefield behind him was silent, smoke curling into the fractured sky. He didn't look back. The fragment inside him pulsed faintly, reminding him that the world above was still broken—and waiting.

He moved toward the jagged mountains that pierced the horizon. Broken fragments of heaven had fallen there long ago, and rumors whispered of ancient ruins filled with secrets of the gods. Perhaps he could learn more about the god that had been killed a thousand years ago—or even the First Sovereign whose prison weakened every day.

The path was treacherous. Cracked cliffs and landslides blocked what would have been simple trails. Kael leapt across gaps, energy coiling around his feet to steady his balance. Small shards of spiritual energy floated in the air, remnants of the shattered heavens. Some were harmless, dancing like fireflies; others hummed dangerously, making his skin tingle.

He paused by a cliff's edge, looking down into a deep chasm. The wind carried whispers—or maybe illusions—echoing faintly with power he couldn't yet grasp. Kael's hand went to the fragment in his chest. He closed his eyes, feeling its rhythm, letting it guide him.

Hours—or days—passed. Time itself felt strange in the remnants of the shattered sky. Kael discovered ruins half-buried in stone, carvings etched into walls depicting celestial beings in chains, weapons forged in impossible shapes, and glyphs he couldn't read.

One fragment pulse caught his attention. A shard of fallen heaven, brighter than the others, floated before him. Kael reached out. The energy didn't resist—it welcomed him. He felt the raw power coursing into him, strengthening his Broken Heaven Energy, sharpening his senses, and opening new paths of understanding.

Kael knelt, pressing Skybreaker to the ground. The fragment pulsed in his hands and chest in harmony, almost like it was speaking. Memories flared: faint visions of the god who had been killed, whispers of battles fought a thousand years ago, and warnings of a force beyond the broken sky that would awaken soon.

He rose, determination burning brighter than the fragment itself. This journey wasn't just about survival or power—it was about understanding the truth. And somewhere along this path, he would find the answers that even the gods had hidden.

Kael stepped forward, fragments of heaven drifting around him, the horizon stretching endlessly. Every step carried him closer to knowledge, to mastery, and to the destiny that waited above the shattered sky.

"One step at a time," he muttered. "I'll find it… even if the world tries to stop me."
