Chapter 19: Whispering Ruins
The air grew colder as Kael approached the edge of a crumbling plateau. Fragments of heaven glimmered faintly in the distance, suspended like shattered stars over the jagged cliffs. The ground beneath his feet was littered with small shards of spiritual energy, humming softly.
He had traveled farther than he had ever dared before. Every step felt heavier, not from exhaustion, but from the weight of knowledge he didn't yet fully understand. The Broken Heaven Energy within him pulsed in response to the floating shards, as if sensing that something important lay ahead.
Before him stood a ruin, half-buried in stone and overgrown with strange crystalline vines. Symbols etched into the walls glowed faintly, reacting to the fragment within Kael. He stepped closer, feeling the energy around him whisper secrets he could almost hear.
"Who built this place…?" he muttered.
A shadow flickered in the corner of his vision. Kael spun, sword ready, but there was nothing—only wind carrying faint echoes. The ruins seemed alive, the fragments shifting slightly as he moved, guiding him deeper into the heart of the plateau.
Inside, he found a hall lined with tall pillars. The carvings were intricate, showing scenes of celestial beings and humans working together—or fighting. One particular mural drew Kael's attention: a figure bearing a fragment similar to his own, raising a fist toward the sky as the heavens cracked above.
The fragment in Kael's chest thrummed violently. Memories flashed: battles fought long ago, gods sacrificing themselves, and a sense of something beyond comprehension stirring in the distance.
Then a voice—soft, almost a whisper—echoed through the hall.
"Kael… bearer of the fragment…"
Kael froze, eyes scanning every shadow. "Who's there?" he called.
No one answered. But the fragment pulsed again, stronger this time, and the whispers grew more coherent, almost like guidance. It spoke not in words, but in feelings: danger ahead, truth hidden, power awakening.
Kael clenched Skybreaker. He didn't know who—or what—was speaking to him, but he knew the ruins held answers he needed. Somewhere inside this plateau, secrets of the gods, of the First Sovereign, and of his own fragment waited.
Taking a deep breath, Kael stepped forward into the hall, the shards of heaven above flickering like stars in a darkened sky. His journey was far from over.
And for the first time, he realized: he was no longer simply a traveler. He was being watched, tested, and guided all at once.
