The little stall glowed under a single lantern, steam curling up from pots that never quite stopped simmering.
The air carried a mix of grilled skewers, sweet buns, and that salty tang you only get by the beach.
Alex walked up first, tucked a stray hair behind his ear, and looked at Leo. "Alright, what are you in the mood for?" He slid his gaze over as if the answer could be hiding somewhere behind Leo's eyes.
Leo glanced at the handwritten menu, then shrugged with a shy little grin. "Uh… anything's fine."
Alex snorted. "Anything? Come on, there's way too much to just say 'anything.' Pick something."
Leo hesitated, looked at the sizzling skewers, then let his hunger win. "Okay… those grilled ones, maybe." He nodded, stomach growling a bit louder than he meant it to.
"Good choice," Alex said with a smile, waving to the vendor. "Two skewers, please."
While they waited, Leo fussed with his sleeve, pretending not to notice Alex count out the cash.
