Leo walked into the apartment and instantly had this odd feeling, like he'd expected it to change while he was gone. It hadn't, obviously.
It had only been a few weeks not enough time for anything to really shift but he'd spent the whole time away picturing it as something unreachable, sitting on the other side of a choice he couldn't undo.
Now he found himself here again, jacket dangling from his hand, the lamp in the corner casting that familiar warm light across the same old furniture. It was just an apartment, after all.

So yeah, of course it still smelled like him.
Leo hung his jacket on the back of a chair and kept quiet about that detail.
Alex had moved to the kitchen. He opened the fridge and stared inside for a second, like he already knew the answer but had to check anyway, just out of some shred of hope.
He closed the door.
"There's nothing," he said.
"I can see that."
"I've been—" Alex gestured vaguely. "Busy."
Leo just watched him.
