Claire's POV
I kept my expression carefully neutral as I walked back to my desk, my mind churning through multiple different explanations for what I had just seen, for why Louis had just acted like I was a stranger.
The lady was practically almost on his lap, and something vile and bitter settled in my belly at the thought of it. Why did she sit so close to him? Why was she touching him? And why the hell didn't he even think to shake off her hold?
As I continued to think about the situation, the lady appeared, like my timing had somehow conjured her. She walked out of his office with a strut and an irritating air of confidence.
I hated how quickly I noticed her beauty. She was stunning for sure, despite the sour feeling she stirred in me. I hated that I noticed. I hated even more that it bothered me as much as it did.
