The day of the board meeting came by in a breeze. Louis and I were not on talking terms. We were barely saying good morning to each other. I avoided him like a plague at home and even more so at work.
Well, as much as I could, given he was my boss and a lot of my work as his secretary had to go through him.
I hadn't slept all night, the stress of facing the board members sitting heavily on my chest like a dead weight.
I took extra care planning my outfit, making sure I looked as presentable and confident as possible. The meeting was scheduled for 2 p.m., and it was only 6 a.m., yet I was already overwhelmed with nerves.
I settled on a fitted black pencil skirt and a sheer lace blouse, pairing it with my highest heels to give myself a little edge—hopefully without tripping and humiliating myself in front of everyone.
By the time I got downstairs, Louis was already waiting.
