Chapter 35 - 34: Involvement

Me and Kathey spent the Sorting doing what we probably shouldn't have been doing, like, predicting every single kid's house like it was some kind of game. We already knew most of it from canon, but saying it out loud, watching it unfold in real time… it hit different. Every time the hat shouted a house, Kathey would glance at me, and I'd just smirk slightly.

"Told you," I murmured at one point.

"You're insufferable," she whispered back, though there was a grin tugging at her lips.

"Hehe… perks of being amazing at Occlumency."

Soon enough, the trio was sorted, just like we expected, and they made their way to the Gryffindor table. Harry walked over and sat beside me and Kathey, still taking everything in, while Ron and Hermione followed, both clearly curious.

"Mate, who are they?" Ron asked, leaning slightly toward Harry but not exactly lowering his voice.

"Yes! I even saw them on the train!" Hermione added quickly, eyes already scanning us like she was trying to figure us out.

"They are Taylen and Kathey," Harry said, glancing at us. "I met them in Diagon Alley."

Me and Kathey exchanged a small smile. We knew what was coming. And honestly… yeah.

It was going to be better this time.

Less traumatic, for God's sake.

Dinner went well, and even, better than expected, actually. Kathey naturally slid into conversation with Ron, telling him about how the Weasleys and Lovegoods were close, adding little details that had him completely hooked. And then came Quidditch.

"Oh yeah, she's the youngest Beater Hogwarts has had," I added casually.

Ron froze.

"Wait—WHAT?!"

Kathey just shrugged. "It's not that big a deal."

"Not that big a—are you mad? That's bloody brilliant!"

Meanwhile, I was busy with Hermione and Harry, explaining parts of the wizarding world they didn't fully understand yet. Hermione asked questions, which, of course she did, non-stop, precise and relentless, while Harry just listened, absorbing everything quietly.

Soon, the prefects started leading the first years away, and there he was.

Percy. Strutting like he's a peacock or smt.

"Oh god," I muttered under my breath.

Kathey followed my gaze. "Yeah… I see it."

"I get why he's the least liked."

Later that night, the common room had quieted down. It was just me and Kathey now.

She sat on my lap as we talked, her arm loosely around my shoulder while we planned out the year ahead.

"We continue with the projects," she said.

"Obviously."

"And Victor?" she asked.

"Runes club," I replied. "Along with Elara."

Kathey's lips curved. "They do look cute together."

"Oh absolutely."

We didn't even get a second to laugh about it.

Victor had punched me in the train when we teased him. But well he used the bear form- but anyways.

"Worth it," I said.

We got serious soon after.

"The trio," Kathey said quietly.

"Yeah."

We both knew.

Things had to change.

"I'll focus on Harry," I said.

"I'll take Hermione," she replied.

"And Ron…" I exhaled slightly. "Ron needs both of us."

She nodded.

"Harry would have an amazing political support," I continued. "And if taught well, he'll be a great wizard."

"Hermione's already brilliant," Kathey added. "Just needs direction."

"And Ron," I said, shaking my head slightly, "just needs discipline. Nothing more."

"Let's see how things end up."

Time moved quickly after that. Classes, training, projects, it all blended together.

Most of my time outside classes was spent in the Room of Requirement, working on the gun. The scroll, the ammo portion, had already been finalized, and now it was just refinement.

"It's gonna be super cool," I muttered to myself more than once.

Kathey, on the other hand, was deep into studying wand-making and the alternatives part, she made a bracelet, but it burst, so she had to think better, her focus shifting toward innovation in ways that could change things long-term.

At the same time, I had started constant communication with the goblins, tracking the vaults of Death Eaters and their financial movements.Guess having connections is a good thing.

The trio was progressing well.

Kathey would occasionally find Hermione in the library, casually dropping tips here and there, guiding her without making it obvious. Hermione, of course, picked up on everything almost instantly. Harry was doing well too.

I properly got involved with them the day he started complaining about Snape at breakfast.

"Ay mate," I said, leaning slightly toward him, "don't disrespect my favourite teacher like that."

Harry blinked. "Oh—Taylen—but you see—"

"I know, Harry," I cut in calmly. "I get it. He's a git sometimes. Just… take your time. Trust me. He's a good man." Harry didn't look convinced.

But he listened.

That was enough. Weeks passed, and Harry was already selected as the youngest Seeker. Kathey took it upon herself to help him out, guiding him through techniques and control, while Ron practically lived for those practice sessions after Wood allowed him to tag along.

One evening after Potions, I stayed back with Snape.

We worked in silence for a while, brewing, measuring, adjusting.

Then I spoke.

"Professor," I said, glancing at him, "why don't you go a little smooth with Harry? I know his mother—"

"He's arrogant," Snape cut in sharply. "Looks just like his father. So I have to put him in his place before he becomes—"

"But is he like him really?" I interrupted.

He stopped. Looked at me.

"Come on, Professor," I continued, softer now. "Give him a chance. He has nobody. I help him at times, but until Dumbledore and I figure things out for him… who else does he have?"

Silence.

"And I know you're doing it so that Voldy bastard doesn't have doubts," I added, a slight smirk forming, "but you're great at manipulating, in an optimistic way, of course. You can fool him easily."

Snape exhaled slowly.

"I'll… look into it."

I nodded, then added, "You did wrong things in the past. Doesn't mean you have to stay that way. Being a little badass and strict is fine...but soften up where it matters. And definitely not to people like Draco ma—man like seriously?"

A faint smirk appeared on his face.

"Alright, alright," he said. "Let's continue."

I raised a finger slightly, pausing. Something shifted.

My senses picked it up instantly. Iglanced at the map on the table.

Quirrell, entering the dungeons.

"What happened?" Snape asked, noticing.

"The turban bastard's here," I said, disgust clear in my voice.

Snape closed his eyes briefly, taking a slow breath.

Knock.

Quirrell entered.

"Ah, good evening, Professor Quirrell," I said smoothly, already picking up my things. "I was just leaving."

Inside, well, I was ready to rip him apart.

My fingers tightened slightly around my chain bracelet.

One move.

Just one.

But not now.

Not yet.

I walked past him and left. I knew better than to fight the dark lord as a literal 14 year old.

Mornings were spent with my usual crew in our den, training, talking, sometimes just relaxing. We even went for a dip occasionally, chatting with the old Merking who seemed to be enjoying his retirement far more than expected.

We had completed the window section of our underground den, giving it a clear view of the lake, much like the Slytherin dorms.

It looked… perfect.

Anubis had grown rapidly too.He didn't look like a normal cat anymore. He looked regal.

A black, almost divine presence, like some Egyptian deity in feline form.

"Cool as hell," I muttered as he casually teleported across the room.

His teleportation had improved drastically, he even started helping with deliveries, moving goods faster than anything else we had.

Aluminis, Kathey's owl, was clearly jealous.

But- He's him. He's him.

As months passed, something became clear to me. There was a gap. A need.

Muggle-borns and half-bloods who grew up in the Muggle world didn't have the same foundation as others. So I talked to Dumbledore. And introduced something new.

"Combat Club."

It wasn't just about fighting. It was about understanding. Giving those students the tools they lacked. Snape, somehow, started showing up occasionally to teach, and I was pretty taken back and obviously Defence and Potions.

The seniors were hyped.

"Snape teaching willingly?" one of them whispered.

"Yeah," I smirked. "Told you he's good."

McGonagall took charge as head of the club, and even Dumbledore expressed interest in taking weekend sessions. At that point, it wasn't just a club,it was practically a seminar.

All teachers contributing.

All students benefiting.

Quirrell refused, of course, not surprising.

We also introduced martial arts into it side by side, so that it has that 'club' part. Victor and I took those sessions.

"Again," I said, correcting a student's stance. "Balance first. Magic later." Victor cracked his knuckles. "Or both together."

Students picked it up faster than expected ,I ntegrating it into duelling.

I leaned back one evening, watching it all come together.

"Hehe…"

Yeah.

This—

This would definitely give me the Head Boy card.
