My leg had healed completely, and by the following Monday I was able to return to the office. I had decided to finish the task at hand before resigning. Even after the divorce, I would still have to live with Alexander and pretend in front of Nana for a while.
Once the elevator doors opened, I stepped out and was greeted by a few employees who asked about my health. I replied warmly before heading to my office.
A few minutes after settling down, I received a call from Nana.
"Nana! I see you've missed your little granddaughter, huh?" I tried to sound as normal as possible.
"Says who?" she retorted teasingly. "It's been a while since I've seen you two. I just want to make sure you aren't causing any trouble. Remember to come home for dinner today. I'll make your favorite Beef Wellington."
"Just admit it—you can't wait to see my pretty face," I teased.
"Oh, you wish," she replied dramatically.
"Don't worry, Nana. I'll be there," I said with a chuckle.
"Don't forget to bring Alexander. Don't say he's busy. If he doesn't come, I'll have his legs."
"Don't worry, Nana. I'll make sure he comes."
After hanging up, I resumed work. Later, I needed to photocopy some documents, but my assistant wasn't at her desk, so I went to use the company machine myself.
After I finished, I turned around to return to my office but ran into Alexander, with some employees following behind him.
Jane greeted me casually. "Director Alicia, welcome back. I hope you're feeling better now."
"I'm fine, Jane. Thanks," I replied warmly before glancing at Alexander.
"CEO Blackwood, you're back," I said flatly.
"Mm."
"Alright, I'll get back to work now," I said before walking toward my office.
Almost at noon, I received a call from Alexander.
"Do you need anything, CEO Blackwood?" I asked.
"Come have lunch in my office."
"I'll just go to the cafeteria."
"I already ordered your portion."
"Oh… okay. I'll be there."
After hanging up, I couldn't help but wonder why he suddenly wanted me to come to his office.
When it was lunchtime, I headed to the CEO's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in," I heard Alexander's calm voice say.
When I entered, I saw him sitting in the reception area of his office. Lunch had already been laid out on the table. From the packaging, I could tell it was specially ordered from my favorite restaurant. The dishes were beautifully presented, with a perfect blend of color, aroma, and flavor.
"Please, sit," Alexander said.
Once I sat down, he picked up a small square box and placed it in front of me.
"A gift for you. See if you like it."
I opened the box to reveal an exquisite ladies' watch. The face was small and square, sky blue, with delicate craftsmanship.
"It's beautiful," I said flatly before setting it aside.
"Won't you try it on?" he asked.
"No. I'll do it when I get home."
Seeing my nonchalant reaction, Alexander simply sighed.
"Thank you, CEO Blackwood," I said as I picked up my utensils.
"Now that it's just the two of us, do you still want to call me CEO Blackwood?"
"This is the company."
I could still remember Alexander warning me never to address him by his name or anything other than "CEO Blackwood" in the company, just like the other employees.
He watched me quietly for a moment before speaking again.
"How's your foot?" he asked while placing some food on my plate. "Why didn't you rest a little longer at home?"
"It doesn't hurt anymore. Sitting around at home with nothing to do isn't any better than coming to work, especially since I'm not walking around much."
"I'm sorry for misunderstanding you last time." Alexander looked at me apologetically.
