Though Dominik's expression has gone completely stoic, I get the sense there are rapid calculations being made beneath the impenetrable surface. I don't understand why he's gone cold, but I feel it like a gust of frigid wind as a door shuts. "You were the last entry in his planner. And now ever since he left home, he hasn't replied to any of my texts or calls…" "He's safe."
For the first time in a week, hope and relief lighten my heart.
"You know where he is?"
"Like I said, he's safe."
"Can you take me to him?"
His shoulders go rigid, and that unreadable expression doesn't budge, but I feel the temperature in the room drop. "No."
"Do you know where I can find him, then?"
"Yes. But you can't see him."
I blink in confusion. "Why?"
His hand tightens on my hip. "How much do you know about your father's invention?"
"His latest one you mean? Not much, other than he's been working on it pretty obsessively for the past few months."
