Sam stumbled through the wasteland.
Every step felt heavy.
His boots dragged slightly through gray dust.
The ruined city behind him faded into the horizon.
He moved south.
Away.
Far away.
His mana pool was empty.
Lightning refused to spark.
Even his perception felt dulled.
"…need… somewhere safe…"
His shoulder still burned from a shallow bite.
Nothing serious but combined with exhaustion, it slowed him.
He crossed broken highway lanes.
Collapsed billboards.
Dead forests.
After nearly an hour…
He spotted movement.
Three human scavengers.
Thin.
Dirty.
Armed with makeshift spears.
They were digging through an overturned truck.
They noticed him.
Fear flickered in their eyes.
Sam paused.
He could help them.
Escort them.
Offer protection.
But he looked down at his trembling hands.
He could barely stand.
"…not today…"
He kept walking.
They watched silently as the lightning wizard disappeared into the wasteland.
Meanwhile — Beneath the Ruined City
The elite vampire slipped into a sewer opening.
It moved quickly through dark tunnels.
Down.
Deeper.
Until it reached a massive underground chamber.
Torches burned with cold purple flames.
Stone pillars surrounded a circular court.
At the center…
Four ancient vampires sat in a loose circle.
The court of the Vampire King.
To his right lounged the lanky, twitching form of the The Fool, limbs stretched unnaturally, posture loose and careless.
Across from him sat the elegant, composed The Empress, eyes calm and calculating.
Beside her floated the eerie, silent The Moon, her presence unsettling.
And standing upright, hands folded, was the stoic The Hierophant, posture disciplined.
The elite vampire knelt.
"My lord… the ambush failed."
The Fool stretched his neck sideways, grinning.
"Hehehe… I told you… swarms are messy… messy messy…"
The Empress spoke calmly.
"Details."
The minion continued.
"He fought two hundred. Used lightning. Area attacks. High endurance. Eventually eliminated all."
The Moon tilted her head slowly.
"…bright… storm…"
The Hierophant spoke in a measured tone.
"He adapts quickly. Dangerous."
Silence fell.
Then the Vampire King leaned forward.
His lion-like head cast a large shadow.
Muscular body still.
Hawk-like talons tapping the stone.
"…he survived."
The Fool laughed quietly.
"Strong human… crunchy…"
The Empress nodded slightly.
"He's not prey. Not yet."
The King spoke.
"Withdraw hunting parties from his path."
The chamber stilled.
"Temporarily avoid the lightning wizard."
The Hierophant nodded.
"A strategic retreat."
The Moon whispered:
"…hunt elsewhere…"
The King continued.
"Move east. South. Find weaker humans."
"Feed. Grow."
"We will observe him… longer."
The vampires bowed.
The order was clear.
The storm was too dangerous to confront directly.
For now.
Back in the Wasteland
Sam finally found shelter.
A collapsed radio tower lay half-buried in sand.
Underneath it…
A hollow space.
Hidden.
Protected from wind.
He crawled inside.
Dropped his bag.
Sat down heavily.
"…made it…"
He leaned against rusted metal.
His eyes closed briefly.
The level-up energy had healed some damage…
But not the exhaustion.
Not the mental fatigue.
He was still drained.
He pulled his knees slightly closer.
Breathing slowed.
For the first time since the battle…
He allowed himself to relax.
Outside…
The wind howled softly.
The lightning wizard rested.
Unaware that even the ancient vampires had chosen… to avoid him.
Inside the hollow beneath the fallen tower, Sam finally let his breathing stabilize.
The system notification he had ignored during his escape finally resurfaced.
A soft blue screen appeared in front of his tired eyes.

"…thirty eight…"
Even in his exhausted state, that was a massive gain, especially now that the system makes gaining higher stats more difficult...
The stat window opened.

Sam's eyes widened slightly.
"…that would've helped earlier…"
The upgrade settled into his body.
He felt it instantly.
Even exhausted, faint static crackled across his skin... smoother, more controlled.
Not wild lightning anymore.
Refined.
Sharper.
More efficient.
Storm magic… evolving.
He leaned his head back against the metal.
"…worth it…"
The wasteland wind howled outside.
Inside the shelter, faint sparks danced lazily around Sam's fingers as he drifted toward sleep.. stronger than before, but still very, very tired and injured...
For three full days, Sam barely moved.
He slept.
Ate what little food he had hunted before collapsing.
Meditated when awake.
Let his body repair itself.
The Exhausted Debuff slowly faded, like fog lifting from his mind. His mana channels stabilized, muscles recovered, and the constant mental ache from psychic combat finally disappeared.
On the fourth morning, he woke up feeling… normal again.
No trembling.
No headache.
No heaviness.
Just quiet power sitting beneath his skin.
He exhaled slowly and called the system.

He could see clearer in the dim shelter.
His instincts felt more responsive.
The system then displayed the stat growth.

Sam stared silently.
"…that's… a huge jump…"
The biggest growth was clearly in Mana Power and Magic Control... the storm upgrade and long magical training paying off massively.
He raised one hand.
Lightning formed instantly.
But this time…
It didn't crack wildly.
It flowed.
Smooth.
Controlled.
Like a quiet storm waiting to explode.
Even without spending the 38 stored points, he was already far stronger than before the vampire ambush.
His perception expanded outward.
He could hear wind shifting across distant sand.
Small animals moving underground.
Tiny details he would've missed before.
"…I'm getting stronger fast…"
He stood up fully.
His body moved effortlessly.
No stiffness.
No fatigue.
Just raw, controlled power.
Outside, clouds slowly began gathering.. drawn faintly toward him due to the storm magic upgrade.
Sam stepped out from the shelter.
The wasteland stretched endlessly.
And now…
He was ready to move again.
