CHAPTER XXXI
The Invisible Net
Arc 2 – The Shadow Conspiracy
---
The capital looked peaceful from a distance.
Golden light spilled across the stone walls as the sun climbed higher into the sky. The markets were alive again. Voices filled the streets. Merchants called out their goods. Children ran through narrow alleys.
To anyone unaware…
It was just another ordinary day.
But beneath that surface—
The city was tightening.
Like a net being pulled slowly… carefully… around something unseen.
---
The Watchers
High above the capital walls, stationed along the eastern tower—
A group of Holy Guards stood in silence.
Their eyes scanned the distant forest.
One of them spoke quietly.
"Nothing yet."
Another guard adjusted his grip on his spear.
"They won't come in the open."
The first one nodded.
"…Of course they won't."
Because by now—
Everyone understood something.
The two unknown individuals were not ordinary fighters.
They were not reckless.
They were not careless.
They were patient.
And that made them far more dangerous.
---
Inside the Headquarters
Captain Darius Valen stood in the central command hall.
Maps covered the walls.
Small markings had been added across the city.
Watch points.
Patrol routes.
Possible infiltration paths.
Every detail mattered now.
An officer approached him.
"Captain."
Darius didn't look up.
"Report."
"The boy remains stable."
"No signs of resistance."
Darius nodded slowly.
"…And the outer perimeter?"
"Secured."
"No unusual movement detected."
Darius finally raised his head.
His eyes moved toward the map.
"…That's the problem."
The officer hesitated.
"Sir?"
Darius walked closer to the table.
"They should have acted by now."
Silence followed.
Because he was right.
If the boy was truly important—
If he was their connection—
Then waiting made no sense.
Unless…
Darius's eyes darkened slightly.
"They are watching."
The officer stiffened.
"…From outside?"
Darius shook his head.
"Not only outside."
His gaze shifted across the room.
"…Inside as well."
---
Arin
The training courtyard had been cleared.
Not for soldiers.
Not for combat drills.
But for observation.
Arin stood alone in the center.
A wooden sword in his hand.
Two guards watched from a distance.
They had been ordered not to interfere.
Only observe.
Arin's breathing was steady.
But his grip tightened slightly.
Again.
And again.
He swung the sword.
Clumsy.
Unrefined.
Slow.
But he didn't stop.
His arms trembled slightly from fatigue.
Sweat ran down his face.
But he kept moving.
Because in his mind—
He wasn't here.
He wasn't inside the capital.
He was back on the battlefield.
Watching.
Doing nothing.
That memory burned.
Again.
And again.
Arin gritted his teeth.
"…No."
"I won't stay like this."
He stepped forward.
Swung again.
Faster this time.
Still imperfect.
But stronger.
Behind him—
A guard spoke quietly.
"He's been doing that for hours."
The other nodded.
"…He's serious."
Arin didn't hear them.
Because in his mind—
Only one thought remained.
I have to become stronger.
---
The Forest
The wind moved gently through the trees.
Leaves rustled softly.
Birds flew between branches.
Everything looked normal.
But deep inside the forest—
Two figures stood in silence.
Lucas leaned against a tree, arms crossed.
"…Still nothing."
Kashihero stood nearby.
Unmoving.
Watching.
Waiting.
Lucas exhaled slowly.
"You know…"
"This whole situation is getting annoying."
Kashihero didn't respond.
Lucas continued.
"They're not making a move."
"We're not making a move."
"It's like everyone's just… staring at each other."
Kashihero finally spoke.
"Yes."
Lucas frowned.
"…And?"
Kashihero's eyes narrowed slightly.
"That means the first move will decide everything."
Lucas stared at him.
"…You really believe that?"
Kashihero nodded.
"Yes."
Silence followed.
Because they both understood what that meant.
One mistake—
And everything could collapse.
---
The Hidden Thread
Inside the capital—
In a quiet corridor near the lower levels of the headquarters—
A shadow moved.
It didn't make a sound.
Didn't disturb the air.
Didn't leave a trace.
A figure stood still for a moment.
Listening.
Then slowly—
It stepped forward.
Black cloth.
Concealed face.
A faint mark on the wrist.
Hollow Sigil.
The organization had not retreated.
It had adapted.
And now—
It was inside.
The figure whispered quietly.
"…The boy."
Then disappeared into the darkness.
---
Back to the Command Hall
Darius stood alone now.
The room was empty.
But his mind wasn't.
Something felt wrong.
Not obvious.
Not clear.
But present.
He walked slowly toward the window.
His reflection stared back at him.
"…They're too calm."
His voice was quiet.
But steady.
"They should be reacting."
He turned slightly.
His gaze shifted toward the lower levels.
"…Unless they already are."
---
The Shift
Back in the courtyard—
Arin stopped.
His breathing was heavy now.
His arms trembled.
But something felt different.
A small change.
A small improvement.
He could feel it.
The way he held the sword.
The way he moved.
It wasn't much.
But it was real.
Arin closed his eyes for a moment.
Then—
He felt it.
A presence.
Faint.
But there.
His eyes snapped open.
He turned slightly.
Nothing.
The guards were still there.
The courtyard was empty.
But the feeling remained.
Arin's grip tightened.
"…Who's there?"
No response.
But the air felt heavier.
For just a second—
A shadow moved behind one of the pillars.
Then disappeared.
Arin's heart started beating faster.
Because he knew—
He wasn't alone.
---
The Forest – Decision
Lucas stretched again.
"…Alright."
"I'm getting bored."
Kashihero didn't react.
Lucas looked at him.
"You're still waiting?"
Kashihero nodded.
"Yes."
Lucas sighed.
"…You're really serious about this."
Kashihero turned slightly.
"They've already made a move."
Lucas froze.
"…What?"
Kashihero's eyes sharpened.
"Inside the capital."
Lucas's expression changed instantly.
"…Hollow Sigil."
Kashihero nodded.
"Yes."
Silence followed.
Because now—
Everything had shifted.
Lucas straightened.
"…So what's the plan now?"
Kashihero's voice remained calm.
"We move."
Lucas smiled slightly.
"Finally."
---
The Breach
Inside the headquarters—
The shadow moved again.
Closer now.
Closer to the restricted area.
Closer to Arin.
The guards didn't notice.
The patrols didn't react.
Because this wasn't normal movement.
This was something trained.
Something precise.
The figure reached the corner of the corridor.
Paused.
Then stepped forward.
A door.
Locked.
Sealed.
But that didn't matter.
A faint symbol glowed on the figure's hand.
The lock clicked softly.
The door opened.
Inside—
Darkness waited.
---
Arin
The feeling grew stronger.
Closer.
Arin stepped back slightly.
The guards noticed.
"What's wrong?"
Arin didn't answer.
Because now—
He could see it.
A shadow at the edge of the courtyard.
Watching.
Waiting.
Then—
It moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
One guard reacted immediately.
"INTRUDER—"
His voice cut off.
A single strike.
Clean.
Silent.
The second guard moved.
Too late.
Another strike.
Both of them collapsed.
Arin's eyes widened.
"…You—"
The figure stepped forward.
Face still hidden.
Voice low.
"…Come with me."
Arin didn't move.
"Who are you?"
Silence.
Then—
"…Someone who knows your teachers."
Arin's heart skipped.
"…What?"
The figure stepped closer.
"…They're coming."
Arin's grip tightened.
"No."
The figure paused.
"…You don't trust me."
Arin shook his head.
"No."
Because something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
The air.
The presence.
The intention.
It wasn't like Kashihero.
It wasn't like Lucas.
This—
Was something else.
The figure sighed quietly.
"…Unfortunate."
Then—
The shadows moved again.
---
The Arrival
Before anything could happen—
A sudden force erupted across the courtyard.
The ground cracked.
The air split.
And a presence descended.
Heavy.
Cold.
Absolute.
The shadow figure froze.
Arin's eyes widened.
Because he knew that presence.
He turned—
And saw him.
Kashihero.
Standing at the edge of the courtyard.
His gaze calm.
But cold.
Lucas appeared beside him.
"…Wow."
"…They really got in."
The shadow figure stepped back.
"…So you came."
Kashihero didn't respond.
Lucas smiled slightly.
"Yeah."
"We did."
Silence fell.
The tension snapped tight.
Because now—
All sides had finally collided.
The trap had been set.
The net had closed.
And the real battle—
Was about to begin.
