Chapter 20 - CHAPTER NINETEEN: PHASE TWO

Night came fast,too fast.

Like the world itself was in a hurry to see what would happen next.

Inside the training camp, no one slept.

Lights stayed on.

Doors stayed locked.

Voices stayed low.

Fear had settled in.

Not loud.

Not chaotic.

But controlled.

And that made it worse.

Chinedu stood by the window, staring into the darkness outside.

His phone was in his hand.

The video replayed again in his mind.

His mother's tears.

The rope.

That voice.

"If you want her alive… you'll lose the trial."

His jaw tightened.

Behind him—

Coach Adeyemi spoke.

"We go to the police."

Chinedu shook his head immediately.

"No."

Coach frowned.

"No?"

"They're watching us," Chinedu said. "You heard Tobi. These people are bigger than football. If we make the wrong move—"

He stopped.

Didn't finish it.

He didn't need to.

Coach exhaled slowly.

"So what are you suggesting?"

Chinedu turned.

Eyes sharp.

"We play along."

THE PLAN

Tension filled the room as the team gathered again.

This time—

No arguments.

No accusations.

Just focus.

Because now…

They all understood.

This wasn't just about Chinedu anymore.

It was all of them.

"If I quit the trial," Chinedu said, "they let her go."

"And you believe that?" Emeka asked.

Chinedu didn't answer immediately.

Because the truth?

He didn't.

"They need control," he finally said. "Not chaos. If I do exactly what they want… they have no reason to hurt her."

Tobi's words echoed in his mind:

"You've already lost."

Chinedu clenched his fist.

Not yet.

SARAH'S DISCOVERY

Sarah burst into the room, laptop in hand.

"I tracked the number," she said quickly.

Everyone turned.

"And?"

She hesitated.

Then—

"It's bouncing through multiple locations… but one signal stayed consistent."

"Where?" Coach demanded.

Sarah looked up.

"Near the old industrial docks."

Silence.

Everyone knew that place.

Abandoned.

Isolated.

Dangerous.

Perfect.

A SPLIT DECISION

"No," Coach said immediately. "It's a trap."

Chinedu nodded.

"I know."

"And you still want to go?"

"Yes."

Coach stepped closer.

"You walk in there alone, you might not walk out."

Chinedu's voice dropped.

"If I don't go… my mother doesn't walk out."

That ended the argument.

UNEXPECTED ALLY

"I'm not letting you go alone."

All heads turned.

Emeka stepped forward.

The same Emeka he had argued with.

The same one he doubted.

"Why?" Chinedu asked.

Emeka shrugged.

"Because if this was me… you'd show up."

A beat.

Then Tunde added—

"We all would."

One by one—

They stepped forward.

No more division.

No more doubt.

The team was whole again.

Stronger than before.

INTO THE DARK

Midnight.

The docks were exactly as expected.

Quiet.

Too quiet.

Rusty containers.

Broken lights.

Shadows stretching endlessly.

Chinedu walked ahead.

Alone.

The others stayed hidden.

Watching.

Waiting.

Every step echoed.

Every breath loud.

Then—

A voice.

From the darkness.

"Right on time."

Figures emerged.

Three.

Then five.

Then more.

All masked.

All watching him.

"Where is she?" Chinedu demanded.

A man stepped forward.

Different.

Calm.

In control.

"You're not in a position to ask questions."

Chinedu didn't move.

"I came like you said."

The man tilted his head.

"And yet… you didn't come alone."

Silence.

Chinedu's heart skipped.

They knew.

Of course they knew.

The man smiled.

Then—

He snapped his fingers.

Chaos exploded.

THE AMBUSH

From every direction—

Men surged forward.

Flooding the docks.

Too many.

Way too many.

"NOW!" Chinedu shouted.

His teammates burst from hiding.

Fighting back.

Shouting.

Running.

But it was clear immediately—

This wasn't a rescue.

This was a setup.

THE CAPTURE

Chinedu fought.

Hard.

Fast.

Desperate.

But they were prepared.

A blow from behind—

Everything spun.

He dropped to one knee.

Hands grabbed him.

Held him down.

He struggled—

But it was useless.

The leader stepped forward slowly.

"You really thought you could outplay us?"

Chinedu glared up at him.

Breathing hard.

"Where is my mother?"

The man crouched.

Leaning close.

"Safe," he said softly.

A pause.

Then—

"For now."

THE TRUTH REVEALED

The man stood.

Looked around at the chaos.

Then back at Chinedu.

"You see… this was never about the trial."

Chinedu froze.

The man smiled.

"It was about you."

Silence.

"What are you talking about?" Chinedu growled.

The man's eyes darkened.

"You don't even know what you are, do you?"

A beat.

Then—

"You weren't chosen by scouts…"

He leaned closer.

"You were selected."

FINAL MOMENT (DISPENSE 🔥)

A van door slid open behind them.

Inside—

A shadowy figure sat waiting.

Watching.

Still.

The leader gestured.

"Bring him."

They dragged Chinedu forward.

Closer.

Closer.

The figure leaned into the light—

And Chinedu's eyes widened.

Shock.

Pure shock.

"…You?"

The figure smiled.

"Welcome to the real game."
