Chapter 16 - Chapter 14 — The Pack‎

Into the Forest

‎The forest grew darker the deeper they went. Elara walked beside Lucien in silence, her senses still unsettled from everything that had happened. Every sound felt sharper now—the rustle of leaves, the distant cry of night creatures, even the rhythm of her own heartbeat.

‎"You're quiet," Lucien said without looking at her.

‎"I'm thinking."

‎"About running?" he asked.

‎She shook her head. "About staying."

‎That made him glance at her. But he didn't reply.

‎The Clearing

‎After a while, the trees began to thin. And then—Elara saw it. Lights. Not artificial like the city. Softer. Warmer. Hidden between the trees like something alive.

‎"What is this place?" she whispered.

‎"My territory," Lucien said.

‎They stepped into a clearing. Several wooden structures stood among the trees, built in a way that blended into the forest. Fires burned low in controlled pits, casting shadows that moved with the wind.

‎The Pack

‎And they were not alone. Figures emerged from the shadows. Men. Women. Some in human form. Some not fully. Eyes glowed faintly in the dark. Watching her. Evaluating her.

‎Elara's steps slowed.

‎"They're… all Lycans," she said quietly.

‎"Yes."

‎A tall man stepped forward first. His posture was firm, controlled, but his gaze held respect when it landed on Lucien.

‎"Alpha."

‎Lucien gave a small nod.

‎"Gamma."

‎Elara recognized the name. The one Lucien had mentioned before.

‎Gamma's eyes shifted to her. Sharp. Careful.

‎"This is her?" he asked.

‎"Yes."

‎A murmur spread quietly through the group. Not loud. But enough for Elara to feel it. Doubt. Curiosity. Suspicion.

‎She instinctively stepped a little closer to Lucien. He noticed. And didn't move away.

‎The Tension

‎A woman with dark hair crossed her arms, her gaze narrowing.

‎"She's human," she said.

‎"No," another voice replied from the side. "She's something else."

‎Elara's chest tightened.

‎Lucien's voice cut through the whispers.

‎"Enough."

‎Silence fell instantly. Authority. Absolute.

‎"She is under my protection," he continued. "No one touches her. No one questions her presence."

‎The tension didn't disappear. But it settled. For now.

‎Gamma stepped closer, lowering his voice slightly.

‎"The hunters?"

‎"Handled," Lucien said.

‎"And the rogues?"

‎"They're getting closer."

‎Gamma nodded once. "Then we don't have much time."

‎The Truth

‎Elara looked between them.

‎"Time for what?"

‎No one answered immediately. That made her nervous.

‎Finally, Lucien turned to her.

‎"For the truth."

‎Something in his tone made her heart race again.

‎"The full truth," he added.

‎Before she could respond—A sudden shift passed through the group. Heads turned. Eyes lifted. Even Lucien went still.

‎Elara felt it too. A presence. Not like the rogues. Not like the hunters. Something… deeper. Older.

‎The air grew heavy.

‎"What is that?" she whispered.

‎Lucien's jaw tightened.

‎"Trouble."

‎The Intruder

‎From the edge of the clearing—A figure stepped forward. Cloaked. Silent. Watching.

‎The pack tensed instantly. Low growls echoed around them.

‎Gamma moved slightly in front of Lucien.

‎"This wasn't expected," he said.

‎Lucien's eyes darkened.

‎"No," he replied. "It wasn't."

‎The cloaked figure tilted its head slightly. Then—It spoke. And the voice carried across the entire clearing.

‎"Alpha Lucien."

‎Elara's breath caught.

‎"You've been difficult to find."

‎Lucien didn't react. But the air around him changed. Dangerous. Cold.

‎"State your purpose," he said.

‎The figure's gaze shifted. To Elara. And even without seeing its face—She felt it. Recognition. Interest. Possession.

‎A chill ran down her spine.

‎"I believe," the figure said slowly, "you have something that does not belong to you."

‎The pack growled louder.

‎Lucien stepped forward. And for the first time since she met him—Elara felt something close to anger radiating from him.

‎"She is not yours to claim," he said.

‎The figure went still. Then laughed softly. A quiet, unsettling sound.

‎"We will see."
