Chapter 60

At this point, a motorcycle charged out from behind the pickups.

The motorcycle didn't hold back its speed, rapidly surpassing the two enemies and stopping.

The two enemies saw someone blocking ahead and finally stopped running.

Daryl got off the bike, glanced at both of them, raised his crossbow, and shot them both dead.

The two showed no fear of death on their faces—only expressions of relief.

Merle stopped his motorcycle and complained irritably, "What are you doing?"

"What?" Daryl recovered his two bolts and looked coldly at his brother. "I completed the mission. Killed the enemies."

"You know what I'm asking?"

Merle really couldn't understand. He got off the motorcycle and walked toward Daryl.

Daryl didn't back down. "Their ending was death. I didn't miss."

"But you were merciful, weren't you?" A flash of mockery crossed Merle's eyes. "Don't you always think you're more noble than me?"

"More kind than me?"

"Oh, my brother is so cruel, making them run their legs off, then shooting them one by one."

"And me? I'm so kind—I just blew their fucking heads off with crossbow bolts!"

Merle grew angrier as he spoke, the smile long gone from his face. "I'm a bastard. I'm a bad guy."

"But I haven't done anything to betray the team. I was practicing shooting, practicing my subordinates' marksmanship. If that's called cruel, showing mercy to enemies—then what do you call it for your own people?"

While the two argued, their ten team members were accustomed to it, cleaning up the site without avoiding their argument.

Daryl and Merle were perceptive enough to walk a few steps toward the roadside to continue arguing.

The team members could actually tell the two had a good relationship—just different philosophies that always caused conflicts.

For instance, on the matter of killing enemies, the outcome was always death, but regarding the process, Merle leaned toward being crueler, using it to warn other enemies and also build authority within the team.

Daryl would be more merciful—like blowing heads off and such, trying to minimize the enemies' suffering.

There was nothing to fuss about. Neither was wrong.

Arguing like this, Daryl and Merle also completed the massacre of the second ranch.

Worth mentioning—Merle acted like a petulant child. In front of Daryl, he deliberately tortured enemies to death, saying smugly:

"Ah, I'm so cruel. The enemies' blood makes me boil. I can't help wanting to tear them apart, break their bones inch by inch, drink every drop of their blood."

Daryl didn't waste words. He raised his hand and shot a bolt, directly killing the enemy Merle was holding, instantly blocking Merle's words.

Though the two bickered constantly, they completed the mission well. The enemies were cleaned up thoroughly.

Corpses hung one by one on the oak tree, swaying in the wind.

After Daryl's side completed the second ranch mission, Caesar's side also just finished.

Both teams returned to Caesar's ranch.

Guillermo led people walking out from the darkness, all fully armed and loaded with weapons.

After seeing it was Caesar and the others, Guillermo opened the ranch gate.

Guillermo glanced over everyone and asked quietly, "No casualties, right?"

Caesar smiled and patted Guillermo's shoulder. "Don't worry, no injuries. Tonight went smoothly."

"Go back and rest well. You worked hard too!"

Guillermo nodded and led his squad's people back to their original guard positions.

Caesar selected several people to patrol Caesar's ranch boundaries—they could rotate rests.

As for the four ranches just conquered tonight, they'd need to be received tomorrow.

Daryl and Merle, the two brothers, were also quite tired. They didn't even have the energy to argue anymore.

Caesar learned about their argument from team members. Looks like he'd need to have them lead separate teams.

Calculating in his mind, Caesar was also very tired. He clapped his hands and said, "Everyone go back and rest. Mission rewards will be announced tomorrow."

Speaking of rewards, everyone's weary faces immediately became joyful. Just as they wanted to cheer, they saw Caesar's gesture to stop.

"Other people at the ranch are still sleeping. Don't make noise. Everyone go back and celebrate quietly on your own."

After saying goodbye to everyone, Caesar returned to the stone house.

The stone house's exterior was mainly built of stone, but inside had undergone modern renovation. Facilities like a fireplace were all complete.

A dim yellow firelight glowed inside the house. A flash of confusion crossed Caesar's eyes.

Logically, there shouldn't be anyone in the house. Had Guillermo been careless and let someone in?

Caesar's right hand moved toward the handgun at his lower back. He leaned against the door's left side, using his left hand to gently push open the main door.

In the dim corridor, the yellowish firelight flickered. Amy stood up from the sofa with delight, a smile spilling from her lips. "You're back?"

Caesar froze for a moment. Amy's tender white skin glowed enticingly under the firelight. A white camisole nightgown clung to her body, her alluring curves faintly visible.

Caesar spoke, only to discover his voice was somewhat hoarse. "Didn't you go find your sister?"

Amy tilted her head. "No, I thought when you came back it would be very late. You might be lonely alone."

CREAK—

Caesar closed the door, casually removed his jacket, and walked before Amy. His nostrils filled with the faint fragrance from Amy's body.

"Do it?"

"Ah?" Amy froze slightly, then her face flushed red. She turned her head away, small hands tangling together. "Okay, okay."

After speaking those words, the blush on Amy's face became even more obvious. She unnaturally swept back her hair.

In the next moment, Amy was swept up in his arms. The feeling of weightlessness made Amy cry out.

"Mmm..."

Caesar blocked Amy's mouth, carrying her to the sofa.

In the living room there was no extra lighting—only the quietly burning firewood in the fireplace, making crackling sounds. The living room windows were covered.

On the sofa, clothes were carelessly discarded. The two became entangled together.

A layer of mist gradually covered Amy's eyes. Her fair skin also turned flushed.

The two spent a wonderful night together.

Daylight brightened. The sleeping ranch gradually awakened.

Andrea lived in group lodging, staying with other women who had no family.

She knew that as Caesar's secretary, Amy's living conditions were much better than her own.

To avoid envying her, Andrea hadn't asked Amy where she lived.

In the morning, when Andrea wanted to find Amy, she discovered she didn't know where her sister lived.

Andrea found Carol and asked, "Do you know where my sister lives?"

Carol raised her eyebrows and asked back, "You don't know?"

"I..." Andrea looked Carol up and down, noticing the strangeness in Carol's eyes. "Can you just say it plainly?"

Carol coughed lightly. "Your sister Amy lives with Caesar."

"What?"

Andrea's eyes widened. She suspected she'd heard wrong.
