"Ring… ring… ring…"
"Hi, this is Di Wan."
Di Wan was sitting in the living room eating snacks and reading a book. Suddenly, her phone rang. It was rare for her phone to ring; very few people in the world knew her, and even fewer knew her phone number.
"Hello! Ms. Di Wan, this is Steve Rogers."
Di Wan put down the book in her hand."Captain? Is there something I can help you with?"
She was a little curious about how he had gotten her phone number.
"I'd like to invite you to a celebration party for our victory in the war. Karl made tremendous contributions, and we hope you can attend."
"When will it be?"
Since she had been invited, Di Wan had no reason to refuse. She didn't have much to do lately anyway.
"The day after tomorrow at 6 PM… U.S. time! At Stark Tower."
"We'll be there."
"Great. This party has to satisfy you. Tony organized it—you know him, he's someone who loves making things lively."
"You're welcome."
"Alright then, that's it. Bye!"
By the time she finished the call, Karl was already sitting beside Di Wan.
Today, Yue Tingfeng had gone out looking for a job. After all, since he was living in someone else's house, he couldn't just stay there without working.
"We'll leave for New York tomorrow."
Leaning against Karl, Di Wan said, "Right… let's go meet the people of this world."
Karl picked up some snacks and started eating."Are we going there by plane?"
"Don't eat mine—go get your own." She grabbed the snacks and protected them."Of course we're taking a plane. It's not some urgent situation."
"These kinds of snacks should be eaten less. They're high in calories. Eat too much and you'll get fat."
Di Wan glared at Karl."You're one to talk. My sister has a great figure."
Karl raised his eyebrows, speechless for a moment."I didn't say anything."
"Shh~"
Di Wan looked at Karl expressionlessly."I'll go buy an evening dress later. How can I attend a party without one?"
Karl said, "If you're going to New York, just stay there and leave this house to Yue Tingfeng."
Di Wan thought for a moment and nodded."Yeah, that works. We can be considered righteous people. I don't feel comfortable staying here anyway. That kid is such a thief."
"He's five years younger than you."
Karl said it calmly.
Di Wan turned her head and looked at Karl with a dark expression."So what?! What's wrong with five years?! Even if he were only one year younger than me, I could still call him a kid! Do you have a problem with that?!"
"No. But could you stop pinching my waist? It doesn't hurt."
He looked down at the slender hand on his waist.
Di Wan snorted coldly and stood up to leave. There was nothing she could do. She couldn't keep arguing, nor could she stay angry forever.
Now Di Wan felt that she had chosen the wrong person. She should have found someone easier to bully so she could vent when she was in a bad mood.
Like right now—she could hit Karl and end up hurting her own hand while he remained completely unaffected.
That evening, Yue Tingfeng came back, covered in dirt.
Before Di Wan could even speak, she urged him to go wash up immediately. She didn't want the house getting dirty.
"Karl and I are going to New York tomorrow for a party. We'll talk about the rest later."
Di Wan sat on the sofa and looked at Yue Tingfeng, who had just finished showering.
"You're not coming back?" The hand he was using to dry his hair suddenly stopped.
Karl said, "I won't be coming back for a while."
Di Wan added, "I originally came out just to travel and wander around. When I get tired of it, I'll go back."
"Go back? You can go back?" Yue Tingfeng was stunned.
"Not back to that world," Di Wan said with a smile. "I mean back to Kamar-Taj. We've always lived there."
Yue Tingfeng suddenly exclaimed,"Kamar-Taj? Good heavens—that's the holy land of sorcerers!"
Karl frowned."You know about it?"
"No, no, no…" Yue Tingfeng took a deep breath."Is the Ancient One and Doctor Strange here too?"
Di Wan said, "The Ancient One is my teacher. But who is Doctor Strange?"
Yue Tingfeng stopped talking. He stood there with his head lowered, not knowing what to think.
Di Wan and Karl returned to their room as well. People needed rest; they couldn't just sit on the sofa forever. Since everyone had gone back to their rooms, everything became quiet again.
"So… this is the Marvel Universe…"
After a while, Yue Tingfeng came back to his senses and looked out the brightly lit floor-to-ceiling window.
He took out his phone and searched for "Stark." Information about Tony Stark and Stark Industries appeared.
Searching "Captain America" brought up Steve Rogers' World War II history.
Searching "Hulk" revealed very little information.
However, all the information had one thing in common: the Battle of New York three years ago. Although the details were limited, he could still piece together part of the timeline.
"Uncle… how can there be another Superman?"
Two days ago, Yue Tingfeng had searched for Karl's information, but the results were scarce—mostly related to DC Comics. At that time, Yue Tingfeng felt it was unlikely. After all, Superman didn't look like Karl, and Superman's name was Clark Kent, while Karl Al was just their hometown surname.
But the Battle of New York suggested that the war had ended because of a superhuman.
This made Yue Tingfeng feel puzzled.
After searching for information about Superman, he found only a few photos, and they were blurry. They gave only a rough idea of the appearance.
After spending a few days with Karl, he noticed that Karl's appearance was quite different from the photos. Only the hairstyle looked somewhat similar…
Shaking his head, he dismissed the thought.
He was a man who handled things methodically. And sooner or later, even Superman would be someone he stepped over.
Putting away his negative thoughts, he felt hopeful.
After all, this world was not unfamiliar to him.
