Chapter 23 - Chapter 023

Shanghai, Empire of China.

Yue Tingfeng held a long blade in his hand, though he had no idea where it had come from.

The sword was unusual in appearance—its blade measured between one and one and a half meters long, five centimeters wide, with a black handle. The blade itself was flat, its body alternating between blue and white.

"I have no idea how powerful this is."

He gripped the sword and swung it through the air. A streak of blue-white energy shot out in an X-shape, stretching over ten meters from start to finish and soaring straight into the clouds.

Its lethality was still uncertain, but the sheer force was undeniable, and it carried a promising momentum.

"This is just the world of the Avengers," he thought. "There are no mutants here, so possessing such power is possible."

Confidence flickered across his face, though worry quickly followed."When I arrived, Avengers: Infinity War hadn't even been released yet. I don't know what's happening—this universe seems to grow more extreme as it develops."

With a thought, the sword vanished from his hand.

He pulled out his phone to check the news and scrolled carefully, trying to confirm the timeline so he could make proper preparations.

Originally, he had planned to go to New York with Karl and Di Wan, since traveling to the U.S. was a route he could easily track.

But Karl was overly cautious. After analyzing him, Yue Tingfeng realized that although Karl was Superman, his true strength was still unclear. In Yue Tingfeng's eyes, he was not a match and needed to maintain a safe distance.

Finding nothing of interest, he put away his phone. He roughly figured that Spider-Man had not yet appeared.

The Battle of New York had occurred three years ago. According to the Marvel timeline, this likely coincided with the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Yue Tingfeng snapped his fingers, disappeared, and then reappeared in New York.

He looked around at the bizarre sights, equally incredulous.

"This is a bit limiting," he muttered.

Unfortunately, he could only use this teleportation ability once per day. This restriction applied mainly to long-distance travel, and had little use under normal circumstances.

"Where is Midtown High School…"

It was his first time in New York. He knew nothing of the area, and could only follow the streets. The city was massive, and he had no idea where he was.

Yue Tingfeng intended to find Spider-Man.

In his view, Spider-Man was clever but socially inexperienced. Still, he was a student. He could make friends, and perhaps even recognize Tony.

With his abilities, Yue Tingfeng could certainly interact with these people during the Civil War period.

Leave Yue Tingfeng alone.

Meanwhile, the Avengers in New York had already begun their operations.

However, Karl and Di Wan were not involved. This was a minor mission, and there was no need for Karl to act.

To the Avengers, Karl was their ace—the king of landlords. They couldn't easily play that card.

Even minor matters like this, they could handle.

"Where to?"

Only Tony and Hill remained on their side. Hill had his own responsibilities as well.

It didn't matter. Karl wanted to take Di Wan out for a walk.

"The sun is so bright—I don't want to go out."

Di Wan squinted at the sunlight streaming through the window."Karl, do you think we can go back?"

Karl turned to get a drink and glanced back at Di Wan's figure.

"Your study of magic should allow you to do this to some degree," he said. "The multiverse is connected to all worlds."

Di Wan lowered her head."But the Weishan Emperor's Tome is too profound. The more I learn, the smaller I feel."

Karl asked, "What have you learned so far?"

Squatting on the floor, Di Wan replied, "I understand multiversal space, but with so little energy input, I cannot open the gates of the universe."

"Do you understand the environment of the multiverse?"

Di Wan stood up, furrowing her brow as she looked at Karl."I know a little. The multiversal environment is complex and ever-changing. I don't know much."

Karl smiled."Try to understand more, break the spatial barriers, and give them to me."

Di Wan stared at Karl in astonishment."You can break the spatial barriers?"

"Not yet. Give it a few more years. My strength isn't enough right now."

"You're still getting stronger?" Di Wan asked, surprised.

Karl replied, "Every second, I absorb free energy from the universe. It's instinctual—I don't know my limits."

Di Wan's eyes widened."Are you a monster?"

"No…" She buried her head in her hands."You are a monster."

"So, when it comes to my boyfriend, should I get angry and scold you like any ordinary girl would?"

Di Wan narrowed her eyes, looking past her hair."Did you secretly see something you shouldn't have?"

Karl grinned."Is procreation considered a bad thing too?"

"Cough!"

Di Wan coughed twice and said sharply,"Do you watch these things every day? That's other people's privacy, you know. If you dare peek again… just wait and see."

Karl thought: Everyone does these things. Why are you embarrassed? Is it just because I didn't do it?

"Stop playing around! Don't talk to me!!"

She ran off as if to escape.

Watching her flee, Karl shrugged. What is this? I haven't even started yet.

Back in her room, Di Wan covered her burning cheeks with her hands, her lips stiff.

"Either die… or die…""I'm not ready…""The wedding hasn't even happened yet…""I can't… I can't…"
