— General POV —
Cate and I followed after a man in his early 40s.
I was looking for a place close to God U., to purchase for the next semester and invited her to come and see it with me.
"As you can see, this is a 2 bedroom flat. 1250 square feet. Fifteen minutes from the city center, Twenty Five minutes to the Godolkin on foot. And yes, the bathroom has a bidet like you asked." The realtor explained as he showed us the house.
After we saw the entire house, I turned to Cate, "What do you think?"
"I like it, it's cozy." She said
"Me too," I told her before looking at the realtor. "Phil. We love the house. And I am ready to make an offer,"
"Great! Now, as we discussed on the phone, the asking price for this property is 420,000 Dollars. Which is a steal in this market if you ask me."
I nodded my head, considering the location, the price was actually on the lower end of the spectrum "Yeah, we'll match it." He said before they shook hands, just as they were about to leave, they were bombarded by messages.
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding* *Ding* *Ding*
"What the fuck?!" Cate screamed as she was the first one to check her phone.
"What happened?!" I asked in a slightly worried tone.
Cate did not say anything, instead she rushed in, grabbed the remote and opened the news station.
[News]
"What the fuck?!" I shouted as his eyes began to glow red, "We are all just some test tube babies?!"
"I- I- I think I should go." Phil said as he left the apartment.
I turned towards Cate,
She was shaking, more importantly her eyes turned red. Not sure what to do, I hugged her quickly, and kissed the top of her head, "Cate calm down," I whispered.
Tears fell from her eyes as we stood there.
Cate managed to calm down after 5 minutes, and I let her go,
"Are you alright?" I asked
"I- I'm fine. I just. I just need to do something."
— Far Away, General POV —
"Oh my god… It's finally out." A blonde woman in her early 50s mumbled.
"After all these years?" A dark haired man of similar age mumbled.
*Fwoosh*
"What was that?" The blonde asked as she looked out the window, but she didn't see anything.
The man walked towards her and he also took a look outside, but he did not see anything either.
"Honey, must have been your imagina-"
*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
They both turned towards the door.
There was an impending sense of dread growing up in their chest.
The man slowly walked towards the door, he took a look from the peephole, and saw the face of an unfamiliar young man. And next to the young man stood their one and only daughter.
"It's- It's her." The man said
"Open the door Harold… We knew- We knew this day would come, that we would have to have this conversation." She said and Harold nodded his head as he slowly opened the door.
"He- Hello Cate." He managed to say.
Cate did not say anything as she walked past him, and her boyfriend followed after her shortly.
She went to the kitchen, grabbed a half empty bottle of wine, opened the cork and chugged the entire thing.
Once she was done, she glared at the couple. "Why?" Was all she said.
"We- We- We…" the man began but words did not come out of his mouth.
"We thought we were doing what is best for you." She said
"Best for me?" She asked as she glared at the woman. "You experimented on me! Put- Put god knows what into me. Because you thought it was best for me?!" She screamed.
"How much were you paid?" The question came from Cate's companion.
"Nothing! They just paid the hospital bills!" Harold said as he glared at the young man. He then turned towards his daughter "They came at us, with an offer too good to pass. Not for us, but for you, Cate. They said- they said they could make you a Supe! A hero! What kind of parents would we have been if we didn't give you the chance?!" He asked
"Responsible Ones!" She said with a glare.
"You are right. We made a mistake that day." Cate's mom said in a low tone as she walked towards Cate. "We let them change you, and your brother paid the price."
"It is because of you- because of you that Luis is dead!" She screamed as her iris turned blood red. "It is YOUR fault! Not mine!"
"I- I am truly sorry for what we did…. I am sorry what you had to go through, I am sorry Luis is dead, but above all else… I am sorry I let them turn you into a monster…" she said.
This broke something in Cate. She took her glove off and placed a hand on her face. "Go into the woods, and never come back." She wanted to say, but Adem grabbed her shoulder before she could.
"Cate…" He said in a low tone. Cate's iris slowly turned white once again as she let go of her mother.
"Congrats, you two finally got what you wanted for years. You no longer have a daughter." She said as she stormed off and Adem followed suit.
After they were gone Mrs. Dunlop fell on her knees and began crying. Her husband tried to comfort her, but what could he say? The decision they had made nearly two decades ago had destroyed their family.
And there was no one to blame but themselves.
(AN: I am not a parent, but if I was a parent and someone revealed to me giving a 99.9+% safe drug to my kid as a newborn would turn them into a world class athlete once they were an adult, that every single multimillionaire athlete has taken it since WW2, even MJ/Djokovic/TomBrady/Messi. And they came with all the right credentials, and the only catch I could see at the time was that I can't tell anyone about this… I do not know what I would have done. I would probably agree if I completely believed what they were saying. If not, I would tell them to fuck off. What would you do?)
