Chapter 12 - The First Attack Part Two (Chapter 12)

Swoosh!

Christian ducked as a demon soldier swung his sword right over his head. The demon sword was laced with demonic flames, and those flames would've caught fire to Christian's hair if it were not for his divine blessings protecting him. He rolled backwards as the demon tried to step forward and stab him.

Christian's divine tool transformed into a magic staff that started to glow white, just like his aura from his blessings. He had no idea how to use it. The demon soldier attacking him, now even more fed up with Christian, shouted as he cast a fireball from his hand at point-blank range.

Christian's eyes went wide. He didn't even know if his blessings would protect him in time from this. His staff immediately cast a magic shield dome around Christian himself. The demon soldier's fireball was snuffed out like it was lit from a weak match.

Several more demons gathered around the one fighting Christian.

They all launched more offensive magic, which all vaporized the moment it came into contact with his shield. As he stood there and withstood the attacks, he felt the staff vibrating with power in his hand, that the divine tool and his blessings were the only things standing between him and death.

The elves, now recovered, were trying to leave the entrance to help Christian and his group, but Darya wouldn't let them. There were still too many demon soldiers left for it to be safe for the recovering elves. Plus, the Archangels and Flaro were doing a good job cleaning everybody up.

Several more volleys of arrows flew over Christian's head directly toward the campsite entrance. I won't make it in time.He was running back toward the campsite trying to see if he could make it in time to help. Darya was there to save the day. Her eyes glowed bright blue as she opened up her mouth, and a ray of ice energy flew into the air and froze all the arrows in mid-air. They all dropped to the ground with a thud.

I am glad she made it in time. Christian sighed in relief. A beam of yellow light exploded next to Christian as several more demons cried out and vaporized into the air. Castiel appeared next to Christian in an instant. His celestial sword was still glowing, and his black wings looked slightly injured.

"It took taking out more demons for me to confirm, but these demons are not normal," Castiel told Christian as he protected him from more of the soldiers. "Look at their eyes, Christian. They are far from normal."

Each demon's eyes were glowing dark red. Not the kind of pure red like Castiel's, but a dark red that felt nothing except violence. It was filled with rage. The uncontrollable kind of rage that would stop at nothing to destroy anything in its path. Christian looked back at Castiel with a worried glance.

"It's some kind of rage virus," Castiel answered without Christian having to ask. His celestial sword tore through the air as he sent several more demons flying into the trees. "I do not know how it came to be or where it originated from, but it is probably the effect of the Demon Lord experimenting with his magic. This means, though, that this Demon Lord Squad Unit could've done actions independent of the Demon Lord's commands. I know he has his soldiers patrolling his empire 24/7."

"I see," Christian said as he held his staff tightly, his divine tool still providing a shield of light from all the attacks. He looked back to check to make sure the elves were safe. Darya was doing a good job protecting all of them. "Once we finish this, we can figure out what to do about that information."

Castiel nodded. They continued to fight the remaining remnants of the demon soldiers filled with the rage virus. Normally the demon soldiers would've retreated in the face of overwhelming power, but because they were filled with rage, they were blind to their own weakness.

In less than an hour, the rest of the rogue demon military unit was annihilated.

Christian's staff turned back into its default axe form, and the shield around him disappeared. Castiel, Seraphina, and Flaro came back to the campsite as well. Each of them had minor injuries but otherwise looked fine. Demons were not an easy race of creatures to fight off either. The rage virus boosted their physical and magic stats. Those three were able to take on an entire squad unit, showcasing their abilities.

Castiel and Seraphina had tied a few demon soldiers to one of the nearby fruit trees. He leaned down to face the demon. "Were you ordered by the Demon Lord to attack us? How did you all find this place? Tell us, or we will find ways to make sure you regret not saying anything."

"ARGHHHH!" the tied-up demon soldier replied back to Castiel.

This went back and forth for several minutes. Castiel stood up and shook his head. He spoke with Seraphina for a few minutes as the rest gathered around the campfire. Eventually, the Archangels decided to dispose of the tied-up demon soldiers until there were none left.

"No luck?" Christian asked as the Archangels approached the campfire. "How will we solve what happened here?"

Seraphina shook her head. "We did everything we could. Usually Castiel's interrogations work, but because it is the rage virus, there is no point. You cannot try to get somebody to talk if they lost their ability to think straight."

Christian nodded, and the Archangels sat down at the campfire. Seraphina got to work healing Castiel and Flaro, who took the majority of the damage during the fight. Once they were doing better, they focused on the other matter this conflict brought: the elves. They looked very hungry. Christian got up from his seat and collected food from the crops. Seraphina helped collect fresh drinking water from the well.

They let the elves eat away vigorously at the food. It seemed like they hadn't eaten for days.

Three girls. Two guys. All starving rogue elves that sought refuge within their remote campsite.

What were they going to do with them?
