"How did you sleep?"
Seraphina asked Christian as she noticed him approaching the campfire with Lola in his arms. Before Christian answered, he gave Lola one more pat on the head and gently placed her on the ground. Lola happily ran over to Seraphina and jumped in her lap. Her tail wagged happily. Both Christian and Seraphina laughed. It was a good morning today.
"I slept well! Thanks for asking, Seraphina. What about you? Also, where is Castiel?" he asked while standing and looking around the campfire. Christian noticed Rhea in the distance playing with the older wolves, but the other Archangel was not in sight.
Seraphina shrugged as she patted Lola and gestured toward the direction of their guest house.
"He probably will be out in a moment. Castiel, as the Archangel of warfare of this universe, has a lot more to tend to than I do on a day-to-day basis. He is figuring out better ways to protect you from future threats while also carrying out orders from the Creator God related to conflict. Castiel really cares about doing his duty well. He may come off as cold sometimes, but he means well. We both are glad, though, you have that divine tool of yours on you and your blessings."
"Why is that?" he asked her. Christian hoped he would get more answers today.
She smiled. "I cannot tell you why. You must find out for yourself through time and experience."
Well, at least I tried, he told himself. He smiled. "Worth a shot in asking at least, am I right?"
She laughed as he waved goodbye for a moment and walked toward the crops to pick food for breakfast. The five crops in front of the cabin were flourishing. The vines and leaves were plentiful, and the vegetables themselves were full of color. Christian had even started planting fruit trees around the camp as well. The extra four crops on the other side of the campsite were doing well too. They would have plenty of food to feed each other.
He smiled as he surveyed the handiwork of himself and the others. His little spot in the Forest of Hellfire truly turned out to be something worth noticing. Christian walked back to the campfire with a couple of buckets of food from the crops and gathered some meat the wolves had hunted earlier. Soon, everybody was gathered around the campfire enjoying a peaceful breakfast.
That peace would not last for long.
"Help us please, somebody!"
Christian, Seraphina, Castiel, even the wolves, all froze as they heard the screams. The Archangels were the first to jump into action as they stood up quickly from the campfire and summoned their weapons and armor. Christian quickly grabbed his divine tool as Darya and Flaro flanked him on each side. They all approached the entrance of the campsite as they noticed three guys and two girls in a group running toward them with bruises on their bodies.
Christian noticed their ears. Elves? he asked himself as his divine tool turned into a shield. He soon noticed the threat behind the elves. His eyes widened. The sight of the dangerous creatures did not look good, especially the one in the back that looked larger and stronger than the rest. He looked toward Castiel.
"Demon Lord Army Fragment," the Archangel explained as he summoned a celestial sword that glowed bright red just like his eyes. "I will take care of that Demon Platoon Leader in the back. You focus on fighting the other demon soldiers while Seraphina focuses on protecting the ones needing help. Move it!"
His voice rang out to everybody like a divine order. Everybody snapped into action. Castiel flew rapidly past the entrance and straight to the Demon Platoon Leader. Even the other demons let him fly past, as they knew if they tried to stop him, they'd be vaporized along the way. That was the power an Archangel held in this world.
A volley of arrows laced with flames flew toward the group of elves that were closing in on the entrance of the campsite. They had nothing to defend themselves with to protect themselves in time. Seraphina jumped into action and summoned her own divine shield, which cast a flash of bright yellow light. As the light died down, the arrows were nowhere to be seen.
They were vaporized in mid-air in the divine light.
"Hurry!" Seraphina shouted as she gestured to the elves as they passed through the entrance of the campsite. Darya stayed near the entrance as Seraphina, Christian, and Flaro jumped onto the battlefield to fight the rogue Demon Lord military unit. Flaro transformed himself into a larger version of himself. His eyes glowered bright orange and red as he growled at the demons.
Flaro opened his mouth, unleashing a deadly tsunami of flames like a dragon. Demon soldiers cried out for mercy as they disintegrated in thin air. Christian took a moment to process it. This was the Elemental Archon Wolf of Fire. He knew this information, but seeing it in action only confirmed it. This was no ordinary wolf. Christian felt a tug in his gut.
He turned around to come face to face with a demon soldier with a sword trying to stab him. Christian thought his life was over for a second time as he watched the sword's point touch his skin right above his heart. In that split second, his body glowed white. When Christian opened his eyes, the demon soldier's sword was broken in half. The demon had his eyes wide open as he looked down at his sword and back at Christian.
Christian was just as confused as the demon soldier.
Before he could come up with another thought, the brief sound of thunder was heard. Castiel appeared next to Christian in a heartbeat as he swung his celestial sword down on the demon soldier's throat, causing him to vaporize a moment later. It was so fast Christian couldn't process it in time.
"Thanks for that, Castiel. The leader is taken care of?" Christian asked.
"Yes, but don't let your guard down. We still have to finish off the rest of the rogue soldiers. They shouldn't be attacking us, but we need to know why and why they were after that group of elves. So I am going to keep some of them alive," he replied as he engaged in combat with another demon.
Christian nodded as his body continued to glow white. He had zero idea how to fight, but his blessings came very in handy for protecting him. Seraphina, Castiel, and Flaro continued their battle, their full power on display as they held off an entire unit of the Demon Lord Army.
So much was happening at once, and many questions needed to be answered.
Only time will tell.
