Penelope's POV
Sebastian's breakdown was unlike anything I had witnessed before. He collapsed into the waiting room chair, burying his face in trembling hands while his shoulders shook with devastating sobs. His whole universe seemed to crumble before my eyes, and perhaps mine was following suit.
Maya remained trapped behind those surgical doors, battling for survival while I stood helplessly outside, powerless to intervene.
My gaze stayed fixed on those imposing double doors, desperately hoping a doctor would emerge bearing hopeful news. Yet they remained sealed, concealing truths I dreaded learning.
"Penny, please sit," Silas whispered, gently guiding me toward the empty chair beside him. "You have been walking back and forth for over thirty minutes."
"Sitting still feels impossible," I replied, though I allowed him to pull me down. "Each time I shut my eyes, that horrible image returns. Watching her tumble down those steps. That awful sound when she struck the ground."
