Bernard's POV
The morning light filtered through my office windows as I reviewed contracts, but my attention kept drifting to my phone. Ten in the morning and still no word from Penny about the flowers. Had she even seen them yet? Maybe she was drowning in deadlines, or perhaps she was still processing the gesture.
I picked up my phone and crafted my next message: [Fourth question: What draws you to someone more - a person who challenges your thinking or someone who balances your weaknesses?]
After hitting send, I placed the device face down and attempted to return to the legal documents spread across my desk. But concentration proved impossible. My mind kept wandering to how her eyes might have lit up when she discovered those red roses, whether she understood the connection to our conversation from the previous evening.
A brisk knock shattered my distracted thoughts.
