Maya's POV
The days crawled by in a haze of gradual healing. Each morning brought small victories - clearer thoughts, steadier hands, stronger resolve to finally hold my baby. The medical team pushed me through their endless tests, checking reflexes and coordination while I fought through every exercise. Nothing mattered except getting to Leo.
Four mornings after emerging from the darkness, Dr. Quincy delivered the words that made my heart race.
"You're stable enough for a regular room now, Maya. And if you feel ready, we can arrange your first visit with your son today."
The announcement hit me like lightning. After weeks of separation, I would finally see him. Touch his skin. Feel his tiny heartbeat beneath my fingertips.
"Right now?" The words tumbled out as I struggled to sit upright.
Dr. Quincy chuckled softly. "Let's get you settled in your new room first. Have some food, rest a bit. Then we'll head to the NICU if you're still up for it."
