Sunday morning brought London's typical stubborn weather. Gray clouds fought against determined patches of sunlight, creating that moody sky I'd grown to love. Maya and I had made plans to escape early, leaving behind the suffocating politeness of yesterday's family gathering at Bernie's house.
"I need to breathe," Maya had announced when we woke up. "And I want you to show me why you fell for this city."
We wandered through Sterling's quiet streets now. Maya guided Leo's stroller while I juggled a bag crammed with baby supplies and emergency snacks. The peaceful rhythm felt precious. We hadn't shared moments like this in months.
No agenda. No pressure. Just us.
"Look how much he's changed already," I said, watching Leo sleep soundly in his cocoon of blue wool. Mom had spent weeks knitting that blanket specifically for this trip.
