Maya's POV
Aurora broke hours before I was ready to face it, though sleep had abandoned me long ago anyway. I had spent the night restlessly, checking the clock every time my eyes fluttered open, calculating how much longer until I could finally bring my son home. Sebastian tossed restlessly beside me, just as anxious, and when our alarm finally sounded in the early morning, we had both been staring at the ceiling for quite some time.
The hospital discharge process felt endless. Dr. Quincy methodically reviewed each of Leo's test results, measured his weight again, examined his reflexes, and delivered what felt like countless explanations of home care instructions. Every detail was crucial, but my pulse hammered so loudly in my ears that I found myself asking him to clarify several points repeatedly.
