Evie said in shock, "What was that? Did you get it?" She immediately stood up to look at Nathan's laptop.
Before Nathan could manage to register the information, a hostile, black script rapidly scrolls across the screen, overwriting the data.
"Darn it." Nathan cursed, slamming his hands on the table, the fire of triumph immediately turning to cold fury. "He knew. The second I pulled the data, his counter-script triggered. He wiped the log file, locked me out of the network, and scrambled the ID."
"Oh! That sounds bad." Evie said with a slight contorted expression, despite not knowing what that actually means.
Nathan took a sharp, frustrated breath before saying, "I grabbed the initial data packet, but the full verification file is encrypted and fragmented now. It's useless." He disconnected the cable from the phone, and the laptop screen now turned dark.
"Is there anything you can do to fix it?" Evie inquired, unsure of what he was planning or going to do next.
