Maya faked a smile. "Why would we do that?" She turned to face the others. "We dare not chase the madam of the house unless we want to face the master's wrath, right?"
The other maid nodded stiffly in concord.
But that didn't change anything, because Evie, standing upright and holding her waist, made it clear with her unfriendly expression that they had already pissed the madam of the house off.
Fearing that she could get any one of them fired, Maya began to explain reverently in a calm voice: "We're sorry, Madam. But M-Master strictly instructed us the first day you arrived that we should never allow you in the kitchen, or we would get fired. Please, Ma'am, we're all struggling for the sake of our family and friends. Losing this job is like losing our lives. Can you please wait in the living room while we prepare dinner?"
