Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12 : THE DEAD CLIMB OF MANDIRI TOWER

Arlan white-knuckled the hilt of his Azure sword. He could feel the raw mana humming beneath his skin, a restless itch in his muscles. "Elemental Infusion: Lightning!"

The blade didn't just glow; it shrieked. Arcs of yellow electricity danced along the steel, cutting through the damp, heavy gloom of the lobby. Arlan steered clear of the emergency stairs—he wasn't about to walk into an Eclipse Guild ambush. Instead, he eyed the elevator shaft, a gaping black maw in the wall. With a sudden, explosive burst from his Wind-Walker Boots, he launched himself into the dark, catching a jagged, severed steel cable.

Srett! Srett!

He hauled himself up with frantic, superhuman speed, leaning hard into his Agility. But as he hit the 10th floor, the cable buckled. From the cracks in the concrete, a swarm of Corrupted Arachnids—mechanical nightmares the size of motorcycles—scrambled down. Their red sensor eyes flickered, locking onto the intruder with cold, predatory intent.

"Out of my way," Arlan spat.

A spider lunged, fangs dripping with corrosive filth. Arlan let go. He went into a controlled free-fall for a heart-stopping second, twisted in mid-air, and brought his blade down with everything he had.

CRACK!

The lightning surge fried the thing's brain on contact. Before gravity could take him, Arlan kicked off the wall, using a Flash Step to snap back onto the cable higher up. The shockwave from his movement sent the remaining spiders slamming into the walls, where they dissolved into heaps of flickering black code.

Warmth flooded his veins, but it was quickly replaced by a crushing weight in his chest. The edges of his vision were fraying, breaking apart into jagged pixels. Reality Rejection. The Jakarta System was trying to purge him as he neared the regional limit. Every breath felt like inhaling liquid lead.

He pushed on to the 20th floor, where the corporate hallways had twisted into a labyrinth of rusted metal. Blocking the path to the main stairs was a three-meter-tall titan—a grotesque fusion of iron safes, tangled wires, and old office tech.

[ Mini-Boss: Security Golem - The Archive Warden (Level 29) ]

The Golem let out a low, grinding growl, like a paper shredder chewing on gravel. It raised a massive, mallet-like arm and brought it down with enough force to make the entire tower groan.

BOOM!

The marble floor disintegrated. Arlan rolled back, his pulse racing. His Mana was tanking; he couldn't play the long game here.

"Time for a mix... Double Infusion!"

Fire erupted in his left hand while frost coated his blade. He sprinted in a blur, baiting the behemoth. As the Golem swung again, Arlan slid right between its massive iron legs, pressed his flaming palm to its knee joint, and instantly followed up with a freezing slash from his sword.

KRAKK!

The sudden, violent temperature shift shattered the reinforced metal like glass. The Golem buckled. Arlan didn't give it a chance to recover. He leaped onto its broad shoulders and buried his blade—now white-hot with electricity—straight into the crystal core at its neck.

OVERLOAD!

Steam and sparks blinded him as the Golem burst into evaporating data. Arlan hit the floor hard, lungs burning.

[ Alert: Class-B Anomaly detected. Deletion Protocol in 10 Minutes. ]

"Ten minutes..." He wiped a smudge of digital blood from his chin. It wasn't just a timer anymore; it was his life bleeding out.

He tore through floors 21 to 29 on pure adrenaline. The air grew thicker, heavier, as if the tower itself was trying to grind him into dust. Ghostly echoes filled his ears—the clack of keyboards, dead phone lines, the hollow laughter of people who were now nothing more than glitches in the system. They were pulling at him, whispering for him to just stop and let the code take him.

"Not today... I have a promise to keep!"

Arlan threw himself at the 30th-floor penthouse doors. The teak wood shattered into splinters.

The sight beyond was beautiful and haunting. The CEO's office was roofless, open to a shattered sky where violet clouds swirled in a slow, jagged dance. In the center, hovering over a floating desk, was a massive, pulsing data crystal.

Inside, he saw Maya. Her eyes were closed, her hair drifting as if in a current. A soft, golden aura radiated from her—a lone shield against the dark.

"Maya!" Arlan's voice cracked.

Before he could take a step, the ceiling groaned and gave way. A thick, crimson web slammed into the floor, reeking of rot. The walls trembled as a nightmare crawled out of the shadows.

It was Arachne: The Phase-Shifting Broodmother (Level 30 - Elite Boss).

The thing was a titan, the size of a freighter, with legs made of twisted, rusted rebar. Hundreds of monitors lined its back, scrolling through endless lines of red binary code—digital blood. Its eyes—ten surveillance camera lenses—whirred as they locked onto him.

[ Warning: Ability 'Glitch Step' detected. ]

Screeeeeeekkk!

The shriek tore through the floor, shattering every remaining window. Dozens of smaller, metallic spiders began to pour out from under the mother's belly, their legs clicking rhythmically on the marble.

Arlan's skin crawled. The pressure coming off this thing was unlike anything he'd felt. Up here, there was nowhere to run. One slip meant a fall into the void or a quick death in the broodmother's jaws.

"So, you're the one holding her?" Arlan raised his sword. Lightning and fire spiraled together around the blade, hissing in the cold air. "I'm going to turn you back into the scrap data you are."

The Broodmother didn't wait. Her body flickered, then vanished in a burst of black pixels.

Glitch Step!

"Behind me!" Arlan spun, swinging his blade into the empty air—just as the Broodmother's heavy steel leg materialized to meet him.

BOOM!

The collision sent a shockwave through the floor, cracking the concrete. The final countdown had started. It was save Maya, or be deleted with the rest of the city.
