POV: Scarlett Mitchell
Alexander recorded himself hitting her with his car.
That's what the police found when they searched his apartment. Video footage from his phone was mounted on the dashboard. Audio of him talking to himself before impact.
"She'll understand," he'd said to the camera. His voice was calm. Empty. "She'll finally understand what this feels like."
Scarlett has watched the video twice. She didn't want to. The detective showed it to her like it was evidence she needed to see. It was as if understanding the cruelty would somehow help her heal.
It didn't.
What it did was show her something worse than the impact itself. It showed a man who'd completely lost touch with reality. A man who thought hurting her was a gift. A lesson. A way of making her understand.
It's been two days since Alexander was arrested.
Two days since Cameron decided he owns the right to keep her alive.
