Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: A Secret Visit

A new visitor arrived within the gloomy depths of the sewers.

His tall frame was wrapped in a long black robe, and a greatsword, bound in leather, was slung across his back. After scanning his surroundings, he locked onto a direction and began to walk slowly.

As he turned a corner—

Thud!

"Ouch..."

"My apologies. Are you alright?"

The man extended a large hand toward the Perfumer in front of him, speaking with genuine concern.

The young Perfumer, who had bumped into him because she was walking too fast, quickly shook her head. "It's fine. I was the one rushing..."

As she spoke, a look of confusion crossed her face. "But why are you down here?"

The man tightened the hood of his black robe and shook his head in silence.

"Forgive me, I was being forward..." The Perfumer seemed to realize something and offered a slightly awkward smile.

"It's no matter. You seemed to be in a great hurry just now?"

"Yes. There's been trouble in the sector used for the Royal Omen infants. I need to find someone to handle it..."

"Trouble? What kind of trouble?!"

The man lost his composure instantly. He surged forward and grasped the Perfumer's hand, asking with desperate urgency. In his haste, his hood slipped back.

In a flash, shoulder-length golden hair spilled out. The Perfumer, her hand still held, froze on the spot as her cheeks began to flush a deep crimson.

In that moment, she recognized the man before her. He was the undisputed eldest prince of the Golden Dynasty, Godwyn the Golden. Powerful, possessed of extraordinary charisma—he was the very definition of perfection.

Realizing he had accidentally exposed himself, Godwyn quickly let go of her hand and pulled his hood back up.

"Forgive me. I became too emotional... Could I ask you to keep my presence here a secret?"

"No, no, no, Prince Godwyn... I mean... yes, of course! I will keep your secret!" The Perfumer waved her hands flailingly before quickly covering her burning cheeks and nodding her agreement.

It was a stroke of luck that Mohg wasn't there to witness this side of his elder brother.

"Then, can you tell me exactly what happened over there?"

"Yes. Feral Omens from the lower levels and outsiders from beyond the city have started a riot. The Omen infants in that sector are likely in grave danger."

A look of deep worry flashed in Godwyn's eyes, though he managed to maintain some semblance of decorum.

"Thank you for telling me this. Truly, thank you!"

Godwyn thanked the Perfumer with solemn sincerity and then hurried toward the lower levels without looking back. He could sense the location of his two brothers' shackles; they were just ahead.

"No, no, you're far too kind, I only... Eh? Where did he go?" The Perfumer twisted her body shyly, but when she looked up again, Godwyn had already vanished.

"It seems this can't be solved for now..."

Mohg let out a long sigh and covered the area where his shackle was located. He estimated that unless he grew strong enough to break it through sheer force or found someone else to destroy it, there was no way to get rid of the thing.

"What are you tinkering with now?" Morgott asked as he sat down beside him.

"I'm trying to figure out how to deal with these shackles," Mohg said plainly.

"You want to escape?"

"Don't you crave freedom?"

"This is the punishment we must endure as Omens."

Mohg was left speechless by Morgott's earnest tone. While he admired Morgott's actions in the game, he had to admit that his brother's loyalty and love for the Golden Dynasty were somewhat twisted. They had discussed this before, and it seemed Morgott hadn't just kept his original views—he had doubled down on them.

"Mohg, Morgott."

Suddenly, an incredibly familiar voice rang in their ears. Both brothers froze before whipping their heads around.

A tall figure stood there with arms spread wide, his face finally revealed from beneath the shadow of his hood.

"Big Brother?!" they exclaimed in unison.

"It is I..."

Godwyn pulled the two into a warm embrace, a smile gracing his face once more. He showed not the slightest hint of disgust toward the filth or the stench clinging to them.

"This isn't a good place for us to talk... Let's go over there." Godwyn noticed the Perfumers and soldiers looking toward them with curiosity and pointed toward a wooden door. It led to an empty room.

One Perfumer tried to step forward to check the situation, but her companion stopped her.

"That's likely a relative of those two Omen children. Let them have some time alone. We shouldn't disturb them." Hearing this, the Perfumer nodded and returned to her post.

"How have you been during this time?" Inside, Godwyn threw off his hood and sat cross-legged on the floor to begin his inquiry.

Mohg and Morgott naturally recounted everything they had experienced. After listening, Godwyn fell into a brief silence.

"I am sorry. Your brother is powerless." Godwyn reached out and ruffled their hair.

Mohg shook his head. "I've never blamed you, Big Brother. You've already done so much for us."

"He's right... the fault lies with our own nature," Morgott added with a nod.

"...I will speak with Father. You must endure for a while longer." Godwyn patted their heads again and began to chat about things from the world above. He also produced two scrolls and left them for the brothers.

"These contain knowledge regarding the powers of the Aspects of the Crucible, which I obtained from Devonia and her two companions... You should study them well."

Mohg's eyes widened. He had never seen the "CEO" or Morgott use Crucible incantations in the game. Did the butterfly flap its wings again? Or maybe they just didn't need these spells in the original timeline because they already had those bizarre physical mutations...

"Big Brother, I want to learn the power of the Golden Order," Morgott suddenly interjected. "I want to be like you—to be the pride of the Golden Dynasty, a protector of the Golden Order!" A light Mohg had never seen before kindled in Morgott's eyes.

"Very well!" Godwyn smiled broadly. He shared his own experiences with Morgott and even left a book for him.

Mohg, naturally, did not refuse Godwyn's explanations. He could never have too much power. However, these things couldn't be taught in a single sitting. After some time had passed, Godwyn slowly stood up and pulled his hood back on.

"My apologies. I... I must return."

Mohg and Morgott nodded understandingly. Godwyn took one last long look at the two before stepping toward the door.

"I will come to see you often. Don't wander off again. The sewers... are dangerous!"

Mohg and Morgott nodded silently. As for whether they would actually listen... well, that was a different matter entirely.

After Godwyn left, Mohg let out a long sigh.

If he had the chance, he wanted to change Godwyn's fate. An elder brother was like a father; during this time, Godwyn had been far more responsible than their "cheap" biological father. Moreover, he felt that under Godwyn's rule, the Golden Dynasty would never have devolved into the mess it became in the future.

The Perfumer lady who had left earlier returned to the area. After hearing about what had happened from her colleagues, she frequently glanced toward the brothers. She kept her promise to Godwyn and did not expose his identity.
