Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: The Great Ancient Dragon, Gransax!

Boom!

Having been confined to the deepest levels for so long, the two had no way of tracking the passage of time in the world above. They had no idea how much longer they had lingered in the sewers until a gargantuan roar suddenly tore through their ears.

Mohg and Morgott, who had been resting near the altar, were jolted awake. Immediately following the sound was a violent, bone-shaking tremor.

The two sprang up, looking around with sharp, wary eyes.

Mohg nearly suspected a riot of the Frenzied Flame from deep within the earth. However, after focusing his senses, he realized the vibration was traveling downward from above, its intensity gradually fading as it bypassed the layers of rock.

But for a tremor to reach such a depth... it was hard to imagine what kind of catastrophe was unfolding in the Royal Capital.

Without a moment's hesitation, they exchanged a quick look and sprinted toward the elevator shaft.

Debris and dust rained down from the ceiling as if the ancient architecture itself were groaning in agony. Entering the main sewer lines, they found the tunnels in a state of absolute chaos. Countless creatures were fleeing toward the lower depths in a blind, primal panic.

The beasts were so terrified they didn't even notice the two brothers as they passed.

As Mohg and Morgott approached the upper levels, a crystal-clear dragon's roar echoed through the tunnels. The earth-shattering bellow remained deafening even through the thick stone walls, carrying a suffocating aura of "Dragon Communion" power—the absolute suppression of a higher species over the lower.

Of course, this aura had little effect on the two of them.

However, for the other denizens of the sewers, it was a death knell. Under the weight of that terrifying roar, most creatures were frozen in place, trembling uncontrollably. This actually cleared the way, allowing Mohg and Morgott to reach the top much faster.

"Did you hear that?"

"Yes, it's hard to miss a sound that large. Something massive must have happened in the capital."

Mohg nodded and quickened his pace. He needed to confirm exactly what was happening. If it was what he suspected... this might be the very opportunity he had been waiting for!

Boom!

Massive wings blotted out the sun, casting a shadow that swallowed the Royal Capital.

A colossal Ancient Dragon of unimaginable proportions was soaring over the outskirts of Leyndell, gripping a spear of immeasurable length in its claws. Crimson lightning crackled along the weapon, discharging pulses of pure destruction into the surroundings.

"Roar! Usurpers of the Golden Lineage, come and face me!! I will never acknowledge that the Elden Ring is to be inherited by weaklings like you!!!"

The moment the dragon appeared over the city, Godwyn the Golden ascended the battlements.

He was clad in radiant golden armor, wielding a golden greatsword engraved with the image of the Erdtree. Gazing through the golden barrier protecting the capital at the mountainous silhouette of the dragon, Godwyn's eyes were filled with gravity.

He realized one thing: this would be the most formidable enemy the Royal Capital had ever faced in its entire history.

"Warriors of the Gold, tell me! What is our duty?!"

"Defend the Royal Capital! Protect the Erdtree with our lives!!"

Whoosh—

Brilliant golden light ignited along the walls of the city. Heavy siege weapons were brought online, and dormant Golems began to stir with the grinding of ancient stone.

Gransax, sensing the threat, did not hesitate. After a thunderous roar of rage, it opened its maw. Endless red light gathered in its throat—the Red Lightning of the Ancient Dragons was about to show the Golden Dynasty its unparalleled destructive power!

Boom!

A massive explosion rocked the barrier above the city. A blinding white light engulfed everything, momentarily striking the defenders blind if they failed to look away. As the light faded, a visible crack appeared on the golden shield of the capital.

Godwyn didn't waste a second. He immediately gave the order to attack. The various Knight Orders stood ready, prepared to launch an assault against the dragon in the sky.

Thud!

Numerous Golems fired massive arrows at the dragon, the projectiles tearing through the air with a powerful whistle. This was technology preserved from an ancient era, specifically designed to hunt gargantuan beasts.

The war between the Golden Dynasty and the Ancient Dragons had officially begun!

Thud!

"The Royal Capital is at war."

Mohg turned his head toward Morgott, relaying what he had glimpsed. "It's an Ancient Dragon. A... massive dragon the likes of which I've never seen!"

Hearing this, Morgott grew uneasy. He began to worry for the capital, even though history said no enemy had ever breached its walls. He felt a sense of foreboding he had never experienced before.

"This is just the beginning. Right now, it's the top-tier powers clashing. It won't be long before the chaos trickles down to our level. We need to be prepared."

"Understood," Morgott nodded. He immediately set off. "I'll set up some defenses and warnings. Let's split up; we'll cover more ground that way."

Mohg didn't argue. In fact... this was exactly what he wanted!

Without wasting time, Mohg headed straight for the location where he had hidden his Avatar. Red mist began to swirl in the air, and a silhouette gradually solidified into form.

"Then, the shackle will be left in your care for now."

Mohg stripped off his upper garments, revealing the golden shackle embedded deep into his back.

Golden magic flowed through the metal, pulsing with the power of the Order.

The Mohg controlling the Avatar stepped forward, placing a hand over the shackle. The power of blood and the Aspects of the Crucible erupted simultaneously.

"Ugh... gah..."

Golden magic surged violently in resistance.

The agonizing sensation of flesh being forcibly separated from the shackle caused Mohg to let out a low, pained growl.

Crack— Splash—

With a sound like shattering glass, a spray of blood hit the floor. A blood-stained metal implement followed, clattering heavily against the stone.

Mohg looked at the shackle on the ground and immediately stuffed it into the body of his Avatar. Now was not the time to destroy it completely; frankly, he didn't have the power to do so yet. But separating it from his own flesh and ensuring its power could no longer bind him was enough for now.

"From this day forward..."

Mohg clutched the wound on his back, his eyes flashing with irrepressible excitement.

"...I am free!"
