Chapter 77 - Chapter 77: Farewell, Cage!

"I'll leave the rest to you, then," Mohg said, looking at his avatar.

The avatar, now controlled by his secondary consciousness, gave a silent nod and turned to head deeper into the sewers.

Meanwhile, Mohg turned toward the golden light pouring in from the outside world and stepped out of the darkness of the subterranean tunnels.

"Sigh... Hah... Fresh air really does smell wonderful..."

Mohg spread his arms and took a deep breath. After a moment of appreciation, he turned back to look at the magnificent Royal Capital behind him. Above it, he saw the gargantuan, mountain-sized form of the Ancient Dragon.

Wait... the capital is currently under a total lockdown with that barrier. Will I even be able to get out?

Feeling a bit apprehensive, Mohg pulled his hood lower, completely obscuring his face, and began making his way toward the outermost edge of the city's defenses.

At that very moment, Gransax's offensive above the city reached its crescendo!

Blinding arcs of red lightning coiled violently around the dragon's body. The sky roared with thunderous booms that shook the very foundations of the earth, signaling that its next strike would be anything but ordinary.

Godwyn saw the movement and lunged, transforming into a streak of golden starlight as he shot into the air. In mid-flight, he seemed to become a miniature golden sun, casting a warm, radiant light that blanketed all of Leyndell. Simultaneously, the blessing of the Erdtree descended upon him, pushing his power to its absolute zenith!

Boom—!

A second later, Gransax's titanic form dove toward the city. The air around the dragon warped and distorted, trailing layers of searing heat. Godwyn, the golden sun, rose to meet the impact head-on. The golden barrier surrounding the capital flared with blinding brilliance as the Finger Readers and another High Bishop of the Erdtree funneled their collective power into the shield.

The moment they collided, the world went silent. All that remained was a flash of pure, white light that swallowed everything.

Mohg shielded his eyes with his arm. When the light finally faded, he could see the situation clearly.

Gransax's massive weight had shattered the upper barrier. With the force of a collapsing mountain, the dragon had plowed into the outer walls, sending them crumbling. Massive plumes of dust and debris surged outward like a tidal wave.

A sudden, violent gust of wind nearly knocked Mohg off his feet; he had to brace himself with both arms just to stay upright.

"Is this the true power of Godwyn and Gransax? Is this some kind of cosmic joke...?"

Mohg's mouth twitched. The sheer scale of the battle far exceeded his imagination.

Soon, he noticed Gransax's massive silhouette rapidly shrinking, eventually becoming small enough to vanish from his line of sight. He wasn't sure what the dragon was up to.

"Whatever. That's not my problem right now. I need to get out of here fast... Gransax's army of followers and servants will be arriving any minute..."

With that thought, Mohg quickened his pace. He already knew the eventual outcome of this battle from his memories of the game, so he wasn't particularly worried about the capital's fate.

"Are you the King of the Golden Dynasty? You are worthy of having your name remembered by me," Gransax said, looking down at Godwyn. Even after shrinking its form, the dragon remained a massive, imposing presence.

In a clash between peak warriors, a body that was too large would only become a liability. Gransax had chosen to change his method of combat.

Godwyn's face was dark as he surveyed the destruction. The sight of his people and warriors in such a wretched state filled him with a mixture of cold fury and grief.

"My name is Godwyn. First Prince of the Golden Dynasty and the eldest son of Godfrey, the Elden Lord!"

Bang!

The moment the words left his lips, the ground beneath him shattered. Godwyn became a golden blur, appearing before Gransax in a heartbeat.

As Godwyn launched his assault, other hidden powerhouses of the city made their moves simultaneously. Godwyn was well aware that this Ancient Dragon was not an opponent he could defeat in a fair duel. For the safety of the citizens, the city, and the Erdtree, he refused to fight one-on-one!

"I've finally put some distance between myself and the capital. Time to think about what comes next..."

Mohg narrowed his eyes, deep in thought. His top priority was to find a way to reach the Eternal Cities. Once there, he could fly over to the site where the Blood Dynasty was destined to be built.

But before that, the most important thing was to get in touch with Liana.

Ever since he had sent her out of the sewers with those instructions, he had been receiving prayers from unknown followers from time to time. Naturally, some of these were from Liana. The frustrating part, however, was that while he had figured out how to receive them, he hadn't yet discovered how to reply...

Furthermore, the reception was buggy. He was basically a 24/7 radio receiver for random prayers. He didn't have the power to "hang up," meaning he had to listen to them all—and it was entirely randomized. He could receive a prayer from anyone, rather than just Liana as he had originally intended. He couldn't filter them at all.

It was clear that the road ahead was still long and arduous.

The only upside was that he had managed to collect a significant amount of the energy known as "Faith." This had substantially boosted his strength and accelerated his growth. Of course, compared to a monster like his "big brother" Godwyn, he still had a long way to go.

"If I want to reach the Eternal Cities... let's see, where were the entrances again?"

Mohg stroked his chin.

The Eternal Cities had three main locations: Nokron, Nokstella, and the Nameless Eternal City. As for the region where the Blood Dynasty was located, it looked more like a massive burial ground situated in the Nokron area.

In the game, there were several ways to get there: the elevator in Limgrave, the entrance in Caelid, or the massive crater created after Starscourge Radahn's death...

For now, Mohg was skeptical of all three. Radahn wasn't even an embryo yet, let alone a man who could stop the stars. As for the magical elevators... he wasn't sure if they had even been built yet.

While he suspected they existed—given that Sellia, the Town of Sorcery in Caelid, had deep ties to the underground races and Liurnia had similar connections—it was safer to assume nothing.

"No matter which path I take, I'll likely have to pass through Liurnia..."

Mohg felt a headache coming on. Gransax's attack marked the beginning of the Ancient Dragon War. Did that mean the other major conflict wasn't far off?

He was referring to the Liurnia Wars—the event that eventually led to the marriage of Radagon and Rennala.

Wait a minute... my 'former wife' Ranni... what would our relationship be in this life?

Step-siblings who share no common parents?
