Chapter 16: The Shield of the Tide
Rimon stood atop the highest spire of the village, the Hydro-Chakra Hub. Below him, the village was a sea of red hair and determined movement. There was no panic—only the rhythmic, mechanical sound of the heavy harbor gates locking into place.
"They're positioning for a long-range bombardment," Elder Ashina said, his voice crackling through the Resonance Seal in Rimon's ear. "The Cloud's lightning-ships and the Rock's catapult-barges. They intend to level the village from outside our traditional barrier range."
Rimon looked out. His Observation Haki felt the massive buildup of chakra across the water. "They think we're still using the old 'Hectogram' barriers that rely on human stamina. They think they can just outlast us."
A smirk played on Rimon's lips. "Let them try to outlast the moon."
The First Salvo
From the darkness of the sea, the first strike came. A massive bolt of blue lightning, launched from a Kumo vessel, tore through the sky, followed by flaming boulders infused with the Earth-style chakra of the Iwa shinobi.
"NOW!" Rimon roared.
He slammed his hand onto the central pedestal of the Hub. The Hydro-Chakra Generator deep in the cliffs let out a resonant, low-frequency hum that vibrated in the bones of every living thing on the island.

The blue energy flowing through the village's copper veins surged upward. From the four corners of the island, massive pillars of translucent, swirling blue chakra shot into the sky. They didn't form a static dome; they formed a rotating, liquid-like shell that mimicked the motion of the great whirlpools.
The lightning bolt hit the shield. Instead of exploding, the electricity was caught in the "spin" of the barrier, dragged along the curve, and dissipated harmlessly into the ocean. The flaming boulders struck the shell and were instantly pulverized by the sheer kinetic force of the rotating chakra.
The Despair of the Fleet
Aboard the Mist flagship, the Mist commander stared through his telescope, his jaw dropping. "It... it didn't even flicker. We hit them with a combined S-rank bombardment, and the barrier didn't even lose its shape!"
"It's not a barrier," a sensory ninja gasped, his hands trembling over his crystal ball. "It's a... it's a machine! They aren't using ninjas to hold it up! The chakra signature is coming from the island itself! It's constant! It's infinite!"
The Price of Defiance
On the ground, the Uzumaki people looked up. They saw the fire and lightning raining down, only to be swallowed by the blue light of the "Spiral Shield." For the first time in their lives, they felt safe not because of a treaty with Konoha, but because of their own ingenuity.
Kushina stood in the plaza, her hair whipping in the wind caused by the barrier's rotation. She looked at the sky, then at the tower where Rimon stood.
"They can't get in," she whispered. "They really can't get in."
But Rimon knew better. He watched the SP counter on his system flicker as the barrier adjusted to the impacts.
"The shield will hold," Rimon muttered to Ashina, who had joined him on the spire. "But a shield is just a wall. And eventually, a wall becomes a cage. We've shown them we can survive. Now, we have to show them that it's dangerous to stay in our waters."
Rimon turned toward a secondary console—one marked with the seal for Sub-Surface Launch.
"Old Man, tell the 'F-rank' logistics squads to prime the Vibration Torpedoes. If the Alliance wants to play at sea, let's show them what happens when the sea starts to bite back."

The first night of the Great Siege had begun. The world thought they were attacking a village. They were beginning to realize they were attacking a fortress that didn't know how to bleed.
